The United States spends approximately $2 trillion on health care cost and over 40 million Americans do not have health insurance. If the Health care Reform bill passes, not only will all of the United States citizens have health care but the deficit will decrease a great amount. Health care reform has been a major issue in the United States for centuries.
The wealthy will not have a problem paying high insurance premiums. In Massachusetts, health policy experts say that any expansion of health care coverage could be setback, even though the public and politicians expect results faster than can be done. It took two to three years to get the law passed in Massachusetts. It could take two to three years before this law will be in enforced. No healthcare can leave many lives lost and even ruined financially. Healthcare is unaffordable, in 2007, 62 percent of all bankruptcies were related to medical expenses and 78 percent of the bankruptcies were filed by people with no health insurance. America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) that its proposal will achieve universal coverage, curtail runaway healthcare spending, help consumers and purchasers, and improve quality of care. (Versely) In order for healthcare reform to be achieved it is going to take a lot of work politically, but with American’s speaking up it is possible. Over 45 million Americans who are uninsured speak volumes about the problems with our present healthcare system.
However, some women joined the work force and would do jobs that men previously had held. Some were not forced to, but they had to work as hard as they could to support their families during this difficult time. In contrast, the writer Norman Cousins commented that there was a negative opinion on the women’s presence in the workforce despite women willing to acquire a living wage. He also stated in his book that the federal government proscribed holding government jobs by both members of a married couple, and many localities stopped hiring women whose husbands with a minimum wage (Cousins 1939).
