The Advantages of Recycling There are many reasons in which an individual should recycle items in order to reduce waste and help the natural environment from pollution. Recycling plastic, paper, and glass helps extend the life and usefulness of items that has already served its initial purpose by producing something that is useable. Different materials require different techniques when recycled. Recycling has a lot of benefits and importance not only to us humans but especially to our planet. The amount of waste is increasing all the time. So, recycling is one of the best ways to have a positive impact on the world in which we live. First of all, if we would recycle, re-use, and compost plastic it would create jobs and promote economic development. Because plastic is shielded from sunlight in landfills, they will not decompose for thousands of years. Recycling one ton of plastic saves the equivalent of 1,000- 2,000 gallons of gasoline. When recycled, plastic can be reprocessed into useful products, completely different from its original state. For example, melting down water bottles and casting them as plastic cups and plates. Next, paper is one of the most recovered materials, which includes everything from packaging to mail, making up the largest percentage of municipal solid waste. Recycling paper helps to preserve the lives of trees. To illustrate, recycling half the world’s paper would free 20 million acres of forest land. So paper recycling is the process for making a paper used to the new material with the aim of preventing any waste that could be something useful. For example, reducing the use of raw materials, reduce energy use, reduce pollution, and reduce forest destruction compared to new manufacturing processes.
