Today almost every job in America has something to do with the “Information Highway”. Whether it is farming, banking, or engineering, every job is connected to computers. It takes a program to run America’s mints that stamp and print our money. These programs are the driving force that keeps the United States of America as a catalyst of what is a great nation. Since the invention of computers back in 1938, it has become a necessity for many people in their everyday lives. From A.T.M. machines to cellular phones, computers remain the driving-point that keep things together. In today’s modern age, one needs computer skills to stay competitive in finding a job, maintaining a job, and improving one’s life in this day and age. Here in the U.S., unemployment has risen to an extremely high level. The job market is so thin that just having a job is a blessing. The search for a job has become a job in itself. Local unemployment offices offer computer usage training to help people find a job opening. A person’s simple knowledge about a computer and the Internet could make or break their chance of finding the right job. There are job openings for jobs that do not require using computers, but you have to know how to use the computer in order to find the job. This means that farm hands, lumberjacks and fishers could lose out on a great job for lacking basic computer knowledge. This fact alone clearly shows how important a computer is today. Anyone lacking computer skills has lost an edge in America’s job market. About 10 years back, not having an e-mail address was not such a big deal. These days it is imperative that people have an e-mail address to add to their resume. Fortunately, there are classes that teach basic knowledge of computers and the Internet.
