Premier Farnell is currently in the midst of implementing a number of information security initiatives to help the company protect the data it uses, whether that is customer information, product information or other data which has value to the business. Part of this initiative will extend to any removable storage that can be plugged into a Premier Farnell laptop or desktop computer through the USB port. This will ensure that any information stored on removable data storage devices is encrypted to prevent unauthorised access to it. The first stage of this process will see McAfee USB encryption technology installed on all Premier Farnell computers and automatically invoked when a USB storage device is plugged in. You must encrypt the USB storage device to be able to copy data to it from a Premier Farnell computer. This will ensure that the contents of the device are sufficiently protected. However, you will be able to use the newly encrypted device on non-premier Farnell computers. How to Encrypt your USB Storage Device 1. When you plug in an unencrypted USB storage device to a Premier Farnell computer for the first time, you will see the prompt box shown in Figure 1: Figure 1 2.
