He was tall, quick, and had a high basketball I.Q. He lead his team of Palo Alto High School to a very successful season, 32 and 1. Also winning their division championship. Lin was categorized in the first-team allstate, he also won the Northern California Division two player of the year. After highschool, he sent out mixtapes of highlights to colleges, but they weren't seriously looking at him for sports.
The Three Greatest Basketball Players of All-Time During the past 30 years, the National Basketball Association has helped many players become famous and wealthy. For some, if they were not a part of this association, may have ended up in jail, prison or even dead. The National Basketball Association (NBA) has basically been a tool for many African-American males to have a better way of life. Among the leading players in the history of the NBA are three African-American males: Michael Jordan, Ko9be Bryant, and LeBron James. Michael Jordan tried out for his high school basketball team and was cut because he was too short.
Jimmy V did not win this award because of his tremendous success as a college as a college basketball coach including winning the 1983 national championship, he won it for his amazing courage to fight and one day beat cancer even if he was not alive to see it. Jimmy was diagnosed with bone cancer in 1992 and was given a scarce amount of time to live. On March 3rd of 1993 as Jimmy’s hour glass of life was wasting down to its final grains, powerful and inspiring words vaulted from Jimmy’s mouth that could make the strongest of storms weak in the knees. Jimmy spread a message of love that night that continues to carry on today through the Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer Research. I will be critiquing Jimmy’s courageous speech in the following paragraphs.
Terry Fox could be considered one of the biggest and most inspiring Canadian hero of the 20th century. Instead of crumbling in self pity after he had his right leg amputated when diagnosed with bone cancer, march 1st 1977 ("The 10 Most Inspiring Canadians" 8), Terry decided to run from coast to coast across Canada to raise money and awareness for cancer research. He began by dipping his leg in the Atlantic ocean at St.John's Newfoundland on April 12,1980, with the goal of dipping it in the Pacific in Vancouver, BC, months later (TheStar. web.). He ran an average of 42 kilometres a day with a hop/skip running style.
In 1966, he suffers severe burns in Indy Car Practice. In 1972, he was set on fire when a broken hose sprayed over 7.5 liters of fuel onto his head. In 1981 he sustains serious arm injury in Indy car race. In 1990, he broke his left knee, dislocated his left tibia, crushed his left heel, and dislocated his right heel after another brake failure. After the 1990 accident, many assumed the severity of Foyt’s injuries would encourage the then 55-year-old driver toward retirement,
Patrick Ewing and Charles Barkley were both popular and astounding NBA basketball players, but their careers took opposite directions after they retired from playing basketball. Both Patrick Ewing and Charles Barkley had humble upbringings and their basketball careers took off in high school, although that is where the similarities in their early lives end. Patrick was born to a poor family in Kingston, Jamaica and moved to Cambridge Massachusetts when he was 13 years old. Patrick was the 5th of seven children and he grew up playing soccer and cricket. It wasn’t until he moved to the United States that he was introduced to basketball.
He was drafted by the Chicago Bulls leading them to six NBA Championships, five-time league MVP, ten-time league scoring champion and the number one per-game scorer in NBA history. Michael earned millions of dollars by playing basketball and for endorsing products like his Nike Air Jordan sneakers. The most interesting fact about Michael Jordan is that he failed to make his high school basketball team but went on to be the most famous basketball player in history. After he retired from basketball he tried to play baseball in the minor leagues. It was very tough for Michael since he was not that good.
Jackie, Jr. also had a drug addiction, and died in a car accident. Jackie Robinson always preached a healthy lifestyle, which is surprising that his son would be addicted to drugs. In 1972, Jackie Robinson was a commentator for the Montreal Expos. His diabetes became so severe that he was nearly blind. He died of a heart attack in Stamford, Connecticut.
He was then transferred to Vancouver to undergo emergency surgery. The bullet had severed his carotid artery and jugular vein on his right side. Once surgery had been completed, he had discovered that the bullet had broke up in his body, and also damaged his spinal cord. He was now a paraplegic. He was 21 years-old when this had occurred.
Even though physically I’m built like others, mentally I can compete with anybody at heart. Being a smaller athlete you have to earn your respect. Since young, football has always been my dominant sport. Unfortunately my high school didn’t have a football team, so I took my shoots at basketball. Standing only 5’8 in a sport that height in a great advantage, finding ways to make it happen is what I did.
