Term Paper on Global Warming Global warming, or the phenomenon of the rising of the average air temperature near the surface of our planet, is definitely one of the challenges that we face in trying to make our planet sustainable for future generations. The temperatures have risen dramatically over the past one to two centuries. Since the mid - 20th century, climate scientists (climatologists) have gathered detailed observations of various weather phenomena (storms, temperature, and precipitation) and of other influences that are related to climate (ocean currents, and the atmosphere’s chemical composition). This data indicates that Earth’s climate has changed during almost every conceivable timescale since the beginning of geologic time (Mann, 2013). It also indicates that, since at least the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, the influence of human activities has contributed greatly to climate change. The influences that global warming has on land, animals, and human society include wildfires, flooding, and droughts. Average temperatures have climbed 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit (0.8 degree Celsius) around the world since 1880; much of this in recent decades, according to NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies. The last two decades were the hottest average temperatures in 400 years and possibly the warmest for several millennia, according to a number of
