  * Since ancient times when the first humans stared at the sky, people have wondered what the lights are in the sky at night, and what that bright ball is during the day. The study of the Sun and stars is not a new science, but astronomy did not start to reveal valid data until the discovery of the telescope.
  * Which one to use?
  * Without telescopes, the view of the universe would be relegated to what our naked eye could discern from the heavens. Being able to see distant objects in the detail that would provide the information that we will need to gather data so that our cosmos shrinks. The telescope has many different types and uses. There are three different types of telescopes that are used today:
  * Reflector
      * wide aperture for deep, faint objects
      * uses mirrors to reflect light to an eyepiece
      * big, needs a lot of space
  *   refracting
      * Uses a prism or second lens to redirect the light
      * Galileo‚Äôs first telescope
  * (Coolscopes, 2007)
  * Catadioptric
      * Compound-combination of both mirrors and lenses.
      * Most popular with amateur astronomers
  * Tumbleweed. (n.d.)

  * Where to build?
  * Telescopes require light to collect and project for a picture of the viewable objects. The viewable area is susceptible to unintentional light from sources such as the moon, manmade light sources, the atmosphere, and natural light sources. Ground-based telescopes have to deal with ambient light and diffusion of light through the atmosphere. The most ideal places for placing a telescope on Earth would be a place that is dark at night, and preferably does not suffer from atmospheric disturbances.
  * Telescopes are built in out of the way places such as on mountains. One example of a mountaintop telescope is the Mauna Kea...
