The major Great Society programs focused on the war on poverty, education, Medicare and Medicaid, the environment, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Humanities, Head Start, and the Job Corps. The Civil Rights Act banned discrimination based on race and gender in employment and ending segregation in all public facilities. The Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 created the Office of Economic Opportunity aimed at attacking the roots of American poverty. GKE Task 1 I chose Egypt and the Nile as the geographic factor that contributed to the development of Ancient Egypt. The Nile is considered Egypt’s lifeline and important to the economy. Each year the Nile floods bringing with it numerous elements that nourish the land, not like the Tigris or Euphrates systems that have alkaline waters. The Nile fertilizes the land making it perfect for planting. The Ancient Egyptians planted wheat, barley, and many other crops after the flood waters receded.
The root of poverty is caused by lack of access to land, a vulnerable environment, and low agricultural production (“Rural Poverty in Honduras”). About sixty percent of the land in Honduras is still forested, but only twenty-five percent of that is obtainable for agriculture (“Honduras: Economy”). In the twentieth century the Honduran economy was based on one commodity, bananas. Like other third world countries, whose livelihood depends solely on one export, the Honduran economy was at the mercy of the world market and its current prices. Efforts to diversify agriculture and expand manufacturing have shown some slight improvement.
They eventually amalgamated inot one Zande group. The Azande means “the people who possess much land,” in recognition of those conquests and the growth of territory. By the early twentieth century the Zande district was under British rule, which lasted until 1953. Sudan claimed independence in 1956. Water Management in Canada Despite the greatest volume of water resources, both in total and renewable terms among OECD countries, Canada persistently faces two issues: water scarcity and water quality (Sustainable Prosperity, 2011). Since the UN Conference on Environment and Development in 1992, Canadian government has taken a keen interest in developing a comprehensive, coordinated, and sustainable water management system. Accordingly the sustainability ethic in water management circulates around three core principles: practice integrated water resource management; encourage water conservation and the water quality; and resolution of water management bottlenecks. ( Fitzgibbon & Bruce, 2006) In Canada, the federal government has the strongest legislative control over water usage and management (Environment Canada, 2012). The burden of integrating national policies and standards under the sustainability vision falls on the federal government, which has to coordinate the regulative controls of 20 departments and agencies (Environment Canada, 2012).
The sweet potato industry, although a high value industry, is becoming increasingly competitive. This underlines the importance of efficiency in minimising the loss of valuable soil. Large amounts of rainfall can result in the loss of soil on cultivated farmland. The loss of soil does not just affect the farmers it also affects the community The aim of the project was to increase awareness of soil health and to develop the best soil management practices for the Cudgen plateau. Figure [ 2 ] Water Way On the Cudgen Plateau, three adjoining landholders implemented soil conservation measures and strategies.

Big Industry Farming Deshavira Harden Adv. Comp 135 6/10/12 Bret Fuller Big Industry Farming The purpose of this paper is to show the relationship between big industry farming takeover of the American Food Supply, has lead to the decline in the American Food Supply. During the past 20 years or so more and more small farms find it harder to make a living, or are simply having to go out of business. This leaves the average American with little to no choice when it comes to what is in their foods, and how the foods they consume are produced. This has taken place because, Big Industry has taken over Farming in America; this is not good because it produces a monopoly, and it also leaves no place for people to buy local food.
