Teenagers Do Not Need Adult Supervision

Good Morning Everyone! Today I shall begin my talk with an example about a film or should I say, film series that proved to be blockbusters at the U.S. box office: Home Alone. A young boy, who doesn’t have any adult supervision, saves his home from a bunch of thieves. What did this prove? That, as young as he is, the boy overcame his difficulties and fears and saved the day. This was quite an inspiration for my stand-off against adult supervision. Ahh! Teenage, the age where the very foundations of responsibility and independence is being practiced. It is the age where one is neither a child nor a young man. The age where the thoughts and ideals, or in short, the upbringing that defines the very nature of a teenager. Since these moral values and ideal have already been inculcated in a teenager, I can say teenagers do not need adult supervision. A critical factor is the trust of our parents. If we are sensible and independent enough, and know that we deserve the trust of our parents, well, we don’t have to be supervised at all. As teenagers, we are often responsible for all our actions. It is our very focus to not stray away from the right path that powers our determination to be good. If all the moral values and ideals that we have learnt as a child are being practiced, then our parents do not have to worry at all. In fact, we would be quite free and would often not feel secluded. At times, we often feel lost and confused. What we must realize is that we should never hesitate to share our problems with our parents or seek advice from them. Teenage is a time for young people to learn the personal and social skills they need as they become adults. Having parties, being invited to parties are very important events in a young person’s life. It provides an opportunity for teenagers to learn social skills, make new friends and have fun.
