Abstract Teenage pregnancy is no new issue. In fact, teenage pregnancy rates were higher forty years ago than today. There are some crucial differences in the circumstances that have surrounded teen pregnancy in recent years. The discussion of these changes are crucial to the future of adolescents today. This argumentative essay will examine studies that have held television responsible for the risky behaviors of teens that have lead to numerous unplanned pregnancies, and explore the ways in which these studies negate parental responsibility and influence. This will be done by using references from several important sources concerning the causes and prevention of adolescent pregnancy. The author will examine these conditions, then close with feasible suggestions toward resolution of the problem. Background and Purpose There are many issues of great debate that one may select for a research topic that have been explored so many times that they require little effort. The subject chosen for this essay is one that has not been heavily researched by individuals or groups in the various fields of social science. The topic is entitled Teen Pregnancy: Who is to Blame? The American Academy of Pediatrics (2008) reports that teens who watch a lot of television shows that contain sexual content are at greatest risk to become pregnant or to impregnate someone.....
