Emotions are running wild, and stress and peer pressure can cause teens to make bad decisions such as drinking and driving. Teens tend to take more risks as they are easily influences by friends, the media, and their own emotions. (Loughry, 2004) Drinking and driving is another leading cause of fatal car accidents among adolescents. When teens drive after drinking alcohol, they are more likely than adults to be involved in a car accident, even when driving less alcohol than adults.
All of this has been gathered from the US News World Report News. Now the real problem comes with teens and not having enough time behind the wheel. Young Drivers and the law The effectiveness of achieving justice in law reform can be accessed through several issues. One of many important issues that can be achieved in justice and also as well as law reform is through young drivers and the law. Justice can be achieved from many factors within young drivers on the road a few would be night time restriction and the number of passengers carried, speeding and drink driving etc... Our first issue that can be achieved in justice through law reform is young drivers having accidents at night and the number of passengers carried. During night time hours all drivers increase crash risk, but it is inexperience young drivers who are more likely to have greater risk in fatal accidents during the hours of the night. It has shown in statistic, that the highest risk of death for young drivers involved in fatal road crashes occur mostly during night time, particularly near midnight and into the early morning hours and especially during these times on weekends.
A large portion of those accidents happen when one vehicle hits a wall, tree, or even slides off the side of the road, this shows that the cause is reckless driving. Someone showing off for their friend, sending and reading text messages on their phone, or just not paying attention to the road. A lot of teens like to show off when they drive, that's why they end up in a accident. There are many different solutions for this problem, but only a few could be realistic and actually work out. There are many people who think the driving age should be raised to 21, they say that people who start driving at 21 are less likely to be involved in crashes.
The drinking age should not be lowered to 18. Lowering the drinking age from 21 years old to 18 years old could lead to an increase in dangerous behavior such as drunken driving and car accidents, risk of developing alcoholism and people under the age of 21 do not fully understand the dangers of alcohol. A teenage driver and alcohol is a dangerous combination. Drinking and driving accidents are the number one cause of death among teenagers. “Traffic deaths from drunken driving have fallen steadily, with those involving teenagers 16 to 19 declining by 39.1 percent from 1982 to 1990, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)”.
The National Organizations for Youth Safety calls this problem “an epidemic that threatens everyone on or near a road.” C.
