Some students made need help with basic math facts while other students are ready to do some enrichment problem solving with their mathematics. Whole class instruction will take place throughout the year but primarily at the beginning of the year, when explicit instruction is taking place on the use and expectations of the iPads. The use of a document camera will be integral in leading the students in initially using their devices. Additionally, throughout the year whole group instruction will be a part of our daily routine and curriculum. Share how the iPads would be incorporated in reading, writing, math, science, and social
They might instead skip around, scanning for pertinent information of interest… I can’t get my students to read whole books anymore…” (318). Students are not focusing on reading a book from beginning to end. Instead, students tend to skim through and miss the important information which is a negative impact on them. Carr agrees that using the Web so often is having a negative effect on him because he is having a harder time focusing and reading articles which are more than a few sentences. He points out, “When I mentions my troubles with reading to friends, many say they’re suffering from similar afflictions.
As a practitioner I encourage children to explore, observe, solve problems, predict, discuss and consider. I feel that ICT resources can provide tools for using these skills as well as examined in their own right. ICT and everyday technology is often not being recognised enough as people think "computers" for technology. The Early years Sector, as well as parents of young children has long debated the relevance of ICT, with views ranging from those who believe it could result in socio-economic benefits (DFES, 2001) to Sigman’s opinion that ICT is completely inappropriate in early year’s settings, being detrimental to both children’s health and standards of education (O’Hara, 2004
I chose to focus on the PK-2nd Grade guidelines developed by NETS for Students. It is important to keep in mind that the profile that is set up for PK-2nd grade is meant as a guide for teachers to use as “indicators of achievements at this certain primary stage (“ISTE/NETS,” 2007) and it is based on the assumption or idea that these children will have regular access to several different types of technological tools. There is a multitude of technology that is widely available for the K-12 classroom. Software as simple as Microsoft Powerpoint and as complex as Auto CAD is available for every type of classroom. Hardware such as scanners, digital cameras, and flash drives are also a tiny handful of hardware that is available.
I felt superior over the other kids even though we all struggle at the same thing I knew sooner or later I will be able to speak normal without my accent yet I will still be smarter at the end. I felt that I did not need to master English I just needed to know enough to make it through life. This feeling grew inside me and became worse when I was in middle school. In my first year in middle school my English teacher told the class how everyone will be required to take the Scholastic Reading Counts program. The program was designed to encourage reading, students go to the school library and select books to read that have a green sticker on the front.
Lack of interactions and participation can greatly affect the environment of a classroom. Through the discussion forums active students are determined by how they participate and are interested in learning by listening to others’, making comments, giving suggestions, and providing feedback. Although instructors and students all recognize the importance of participation, many students still choose not to engage and participate. In an online community, the opportunity to have a lot of non-verbal communication can occur, so it is important for the instructor and students to create a supportive classroom environment. If the classroom environment provides support, the students in return are then more willing to engage and participate in
Often times there was not the needed structures in place to ensure that members from the outside agencies were able to effectively meet the needs of the students (Fein, Carlisle, & Isaacson, 2008). Issues such as non-school counselors having no experience with working with children, some volunteers having no counseling credentials, or even some clergy insinuating their beliefs onto students were seen (Fein, Carlisle, & Isaacson, 2008). Because of this, it is important to for counselors to improve their collaboration skills with community agencies. While it is important to reach out to outside agencies, it is also important to ensure that as a counselor one is collaborating with agencies that will be of the most benefit to the students in times of
Students sometimes become so dependent upon technology that they are not exposed to the traditional ways of learning. Because some students might rely on technology in every area of learning, they might never experience what it is like to visit a library or read a printed textbook, especially since so many books can be purchased on audio now. Other disadvantages are that students’ handwriting skills might suffer due to a lack of practice because of their use of the computer to always write reports and essays. Always relying on the computer to find and correct errors while creating documents can result in students having very poor progress in grammar and spelling skills. Because many students also rely on the computer’s calculator, their ability to learn the proper methods of solving math problems might not be as enhanced.
Solutions for problems like these are hard to come across, but if people took it upon themselves to try to educate them self by reading and writing more than they do it would help them in the long run. There was a table “From Reading at Risk” by Shea, Scanlon L., and Aufses presented that showed how many people actually take the intuitive to read for the purpose of educating their self. The people within the school systems should take a look at all of the problems with the Education system. It all starts with the adults in charge. Not every parent has the financial Stability to send their kids to schools with great education programs, as shown in waiting for Superman.
People are also able to hide their true identity, which can be potentially dangerous. Even though children understand how to do all of these things with technology, they are missing key skills. Analytical and writing skills are abilities that must be developed throughout years of learning and practice at school. In Rainbows End, children are not developing these important skills, and are missing a huge part of what makes people human. This is evident when Robert Gu reads his poem to Juan’s class and, though
