In the Early 19th Century, the First Wave of technological change was dominated by steam power (steam engines for trains), the production of textiles increased, and the widespread use of iron and steel. In the Mid 19th Century, the Second Wave of technological change began where railway construction increase and opened up new social and cultural opportunities such as trade and communication, and the adoption of steel was also fading in such things as construction and architecture. In the very early half of the 1900’s, the Third Wave of technological change brought about the increased interest in and production of electricity, the bringing together of new technologies which in turn helped to create the motor industry, and new materials in the chemical industry such as nylon and silk. In the Late 1960s, the Fourth and final Wave of technological change was based on electronics and communications, a process that was still growing at the end of the century. Question 3.
