With advancements in technology, some students have chosen to complete their schoolwork through the Internet, rather than in traditional classrooms. Those who support a traditional classroom approach to learning argue that it provides more of an opportunity for students to interact with the teacher and other students. Those who feel that learning over the Internet is better argue that it allows students to learn anytime and anywhere they choose. Do you feel education is better provided in traditional classrooms or when offered over the Internet? Write an essay to be read by a classroom teacher in which you persuade the reader that either traditional classroom education or Internet-based learning is better. With advancements in technology, some students have chosen to complete their schoolwork through the Internet, rather than in traditional classrooms.
To this extent, the benefits of Wikipedia for university students are limited. The first part of this essay will focus on the fact that Wikipedia can be effective for students in today’s ever-changing online environment. Then it will move on to the fact that students are occasionally blind in accepting information which is produced by unknown background authors, and thus potentially need to take more notice of the drawbacks of Wikipedia (Chandler and Gregory, 2010a:2). Lastly, the conclusion will assert that traditional academic resources might be time-consuming but more valuable and be able to withstand scrutiny compared with Wikipedia. First of all, an online encyclopaedia provides clear benefits, such as ease of access compared with traditional sources, and a very high update speed, with regards to new and changing information.
I also remember taking a class at Kaplan for my undergraduate program that the professor completely and totally told us that Wikipedia was a very viable site to get primary source information for his research papers. He encouraged us to use the website for information but also be aware of any vandalism that may be apparent in certain topics. Personally, I would only use Wikipedia as a pre-search tool for better information. Inappropriate: As Clay Burell said, I’ve been skimming Wikipedia’s own policies for writing and research, and Lo! The Great Wikipedia itself tells its writers the very things I was trying to tell my young fundies.” (2010) In most cases, most school, libraries or any type of educational program will tell you that Wikipedia is a very good start to get to know about the subject that a person is studying.
The way technology has driven the last half of a century has changed life astronomically. Everyday people crave and desire the next big thing on the market. Whether it is the hybrid car or touch screen phone, the need for something more leaves room in life for unhappiness when those items are not obtained. Lao-Tzu strongly argued that when people do not want anything, they are okay with living simple. This is beyond the truth of today.

Mariana Morales Erzinger Rhetoric 101 September 16, 2014 Keeping up with the Technologies (Season 2014) As society is evolving, we are always looking for ways to make things easier and more efficient. But, we don’t realize that some of the newest technology that we have are making us rely on those resources so much that we never take the time to do a simple task without using some kind of device. We should to take the time to sit down and read a book without getting distracted by sending an email or just sit outside to enjoy the weather and scenery. Bohannon, John. “Dance Vs. PowerPoint: A Modest Proposal” The Norton Field Guide to Writing with Readings.
They’re in our houses, on the streets, in our stores, in our cars, and in our schools. Since this technology is so heavily present in our everyday life, and everyone around us is exposed to this technology, the pressure to stay connected to the latest technologies at all times is extreme. With so many social networking sites, text messages, e-mails, instant messages, and cell phone calls, it feels impossible to disconnect from the Internet-based technologies for a chosen time.
As the mind becomes more fine tuned the student will realise they can apply more to analytical and critical thinking - “Constant practice and critical reflection is essential if the student wishes to succeed” (Cottrell, 2013 P66). Study skills are acquired over time and are not something you are naturally able to achieve. “Good study skills have little to do with being naturally clever and more to do with awareness, strategies, confidence and practice” (Cottrell.2013 P4). Study skills cover a multitude of options, what makes good study skills relies entirely on what works best for the individual as to what makes study effective. These range from – writing skills, comprehension, communication, time management,
In this video, Freeman Hrabowski passionately reaches out for his aim to brighten up the course for the next generation of “young individuals” (TED, 2013). Hrabowski discussed the lack of motivation and shortcomings of current university students. He searched for means of boosting what the students’ wanted to learn that will lead to their success. Hrabowski also says that courage is simply how much a student wants what they do (TED, 2013). With reference to this, if students shy away from attaining greater dreams and goals and argue that they are not bright enough, then that is only an excuse.
Students can be taught what is appropriately creative in order to guide them to the enhancement of their creative intelligences. Then, if the students still need to learn math and science, they can more easily with the creativity and confidence regarding their abilities that they pick up in the arts. Both types of intelligences use one another in order serve a better purpose in the greater scheme of things. So they cannot really be compared because what one discipline deems important, the other may not and so on. We as humans cannot compare r individual accomplishments amongst ourselves to others in accomplishments because everyone is coming from different circumstances.
