The world of sport is continually changing over the years, and the use of technology is just one of those areas that has made an impact on many sports in the modern day. One criticism of the use of technology is that it can slow down the speed of the game, but on the other hand for many people it makes watching it more enjoyable to see the correct decisions being made. Video technology for officials Video technology has been at the for front of sport technology after decisions made by referees in the world cup. Many sports have started to bring in video technology to help referees and umpires make the correct decisions in the games. An example of this is Hawk-eye, which is a camera system that traces a ball's trajectory. It is being used in international cricket and tennis, and many other sports are also looking at making use of this technology. The system is also being trialled in soccer as part of the goal line technology. This means that’s the referees will not have to make guess decisions and the fans will be more happy with the decisions made. Video technology also is more reliable than a human because they do not have bad days and they can never be lenient towards a team or player. However some people may complain that the video refereeing slows down the game and causes it to stop and starts when they make the decisions. The technology can also under mind the authority of the officials and cause the referees to be obsolete. This also makes the games over analysed because you can see if someone is off side by a couple of millimetres and people wonder if it really matter and whether it is worth stopping the game for it. Another problem with the technology is that it is more expensive to maintain and create the technology than not to have it. Also the companies need to hire people to maintain the camera and during the games need people to analyse
