In the argument “Tapping into Text Messaging” by Janet Kornblum, says teens, techies and other early adopters leading the charge to text say it is a great way to communicate when they are too busy to talk or when making a call would be rude or impractical. Just like being in the class room when there is an important incoming call, texting back is a more necessary way to get back to the person instead of disrupting the class and wasting learning time. Texting only takes a few seconds to do and could turn a 10 minute phone conversation into a 1 minute conversation. Text messaging can easily be discreet while being in the class room if turned off or on silent. As long as the student remembers to do so, their phone will not cause a distraction in class.
These studies show how conversing uses different cognitive skills than other activities and takes up a human brain’s “bandwidth” (Novotney). She also makes another valid point that “Most people would not think of getting in a car with someone who has been drinking, but they do not have a problem getting in to a car with someone who is using their cell phone” (Novotney). The increase of gas prices hurt the benefit of motorists. Because of the ridiculous high gas prices, many people have to choose pool car to share the transportation/gas fees with other people or use public transportation. For instance, my uncle, who lives in Foster City and works at downtown San Francisco, drives to work every day. However, when the gas prices went up, he had to take Caltrain-a kind of public transportation to go to work since it was cheaper than drive. However, it took longer time to go to work since he just needed 40 minutes to drive to work but he needed more or less two hours to go to work by Caltrain.

With the new inventions of texting and other ways of communicating through technology, it seems that more and more people would rather just be a face behind a screen. Moore’s point was that the new ideals of constant texting are killing the communication between people. Texting has become a very important part of most people’s life. Nowadays, a lot of people prefer to do everything through their cell phone, rather than face to face . It makes it easier for people to say things through a text message because they are not in front of the person.

According to the National Safety Council, there are 1600000 car accidents per year and, 11 teen’s death per day every day are caused by drivers distracted by texting while driving, and . This number adds up to nearly 25% of all car accidents. Also, according to some studies, in 2011, at least 23% of auto collisions in 2011 involved cell phones, which is adds up to almost 1.3 million car accidents. Car accidents are four times more likely to result from take place from drivers being distracted by texting than other causes.
On average, drivers spend more than half their time driving engaged in distractive behavior. Most of the drivers on the road, about 94%, would agree that sending e-mails or text messages while driving is not acceptable and about 87% of drivers support laws against reading, typing or send text messages or e-mails while driving. But unfortunately in this day in age, multi-tasking is simply just a fact of life; everyone will face constant demand for their time, and will feel the need to juggle more things at once now than ever before. And the bad part of that is people try to multi-task while driving, and that is never a good idea (AAA foundation). Another concern in many different communities around the United States is the distracted teen driver, not just the adult.
Most kids our age that are just learning how to drive need to pay for gas prices on their own with out their parents help. Some kids even have to work two jobs to pay for gas. “I am just going to sell my car and walk everywhere I go” Kyle Clemenz said. “I literally feel bad for your generation Laura, because the gas prices keep going up and it’s hard to say where you will be in life with this problem. You might have to work two or three jobs to maintain the money for gas these days.
