We interpret the term Information Communication Technology to include the use of any equipment, which allows users to communicate or manipulate information electronically. The overall aim is to produce learners who are confident and effective users of ICT and to ensure that teachers develop confidence and competence to use ICT to facilitate effective teaching.
The choice of an online learning environment, with attendance at any hour, is fast becoming a primary choice of higher education. “The 10% growth rate for online enrollments far exceeds the 2% growth in the overall higher education student population” (The Sloan Consortium, 2011). The purpose of this paper is to compare and contrast online and classroom learning environments; therefore, allowing the reader to determine which environment would be the best choice for his or her individual learning style. The traditional classroom learning environment promotes face to face learning between the student and the educator. The online learning environment uses electronic communication to support the student’s learning and communication.

According to some educators online learning is one of the most important and significant new instructional approaches available for improving teaching and learning in schools today. (Blomeyer, 2002) Since this boom in online learning much research has been has been done to see if this new way of learning can have the same outcome for students as it does in campus courses. With the research I have gathered it is my belief that online courses provide the same quality of education as campus courses do.

It lowers the barriers of self directed learning and inspires exploration to satisfy curiosity or interest by offering a degree of freedom and autonomy not apparent in classrooms (Et Al 3). This is one of the greatest benefits of the internet, it grants you the freedom to learn about whatever you want while allowing you to establish credibility for yourself in your field of interest by connecting you to people interested or involved that field of interest. This freedom to share exchange ideas, creations, and feedback promotes the youth to create, share, and collaborate.
