Unit 1 Assignment 1: Voice vs Data Cell Phones: Cell phones are a part of our everyday lives depending who you ask. The technology for them have come leaps and bounds that what anyone could imagine. Cell phones use to use a voice network only collecting waves from towers to transfer their voice communication. Sending one signal out and receiving one signal in. Now, though cell phones use both voice and data for their networks and it has been ongoing competition since then between carriers.
Now, when you want to book a flight nowadays all you have to do is log onto your pc, tablet or mobile and access the internet, log onto the website and select your destination, then finally accept the cost. This is processed almost immediately and you can either get a ticket posted to you, you can print off your ticket or you cannot do either and just sign in when you get to the airport at the help desk. E.g. “easy jet” has a stall at the airport with their sales reps there to help you. An Indirect distribution channel is where a company doesn’t sell its goods directly to a customer.
If a person is unable to take a call or is already on the phone a voice mail allows the caller to record messages which can be accessed at your own convenience. Mobile data that was used was PDA and cell phones for text messaging; however, mobile data started to disappeared. Instead, organizations started to offer better packages like mobile data that could be used nationwide. PDA’s, cell phones, and laptops are a big source for the criminal justice system. They have effectively broadened the communication system for law enforcement overall. For example, cell phones and laptops can be used to retrieve and send information to anywhere at any time of the day.

You will also be using the data network for all your internet surfing as well as your text messages and pictures been sent as well, Landline phones use a voice network for talking to other people over the network on the older internet before high-speed internet they also sent data but that technology has fallen to the wayside with the takeover of high speed internet. SMS/text messaging are using the data network so you can send pictures and just text to another person much in the way a email will work just text no voice. Fax Machines send data by compressing the image that was scanned and sending it out over the line the fax receives and sends digital tones and this is how the communicate with one another. Pagers are a telecommunication device but are data networks there are no voice being transmitted over the proses.
In order to stay competitive in my professional career I will need to be extremely proficient with these mobile computing devices. End users today are do not have to be attached to their desk and computers. With these new smartphones and tablets your office can be anywhere you are. All you need is an internet connection and a place to set up. The cool thing is your cellular phone can be both those devices at the same time.
Luckily, when at the dinner table, we have the ability to turn our cell phones off or put them on airplane mode. We have the agency to set rules at the dinner table where there are no cell phones or laptops allowed. We are all capable of getting up and turning off the TV before dinnertime. The specialized codes for emailing are effective, by having the codes protects the clients name. Email is technology that every organization can use to improve communication in the organization. Time will not always let you pick up the phone in a organization so it is helpful at times to email. Organization cell phones are also a plus for any company not everyone has the same cell phone company or the company can offer discounts for their employees. Conclusion Technology plays a significant role in communication.
These days it seems that most people carry a cell phone, and ringing phones can be heard everywhere from restaurants to shopping centers. Some people consider talking on a cellular phone in public rude, while others continue to talk wherever they go. In the article “I Will Check My Phone at Dinner and You Will Deal with It” the author Mg.Siegler questions weather using a cell phone in a restaurant or at a dinner table is rude, or is it just a sign of the times, are people overreacting? Siegler starts out by explaining next time you go out to eat depending on the restaurant, you can find anywhere from a couple of people on their phones, to a bunch of people on their phones talking, texting and or tweeting. When Siegler tells about going out to eat with his mom and having to check his phone under the table, it contradicts the whole point the rest of the article seems to make, Siegler admits that “cell phone usage is frowned upon in restaurants for a good reason, it can be annoying”.
One of the major concerns for organizations is that many of the devices are capable of taking pictures, recording audio and video, connecting to the internet and sending text messages. Without proper training and policies to guide the appropriate use of these devices, an organization’s personnel may engage in behaviors that are disruptive and pose a legal consequence. Despite their popularity, we must consider whether cell phones are more of a workplace convenience or just a source of irritation. It can be argued that cell phones are not the source of disruptions in the workplace rather it’s the behaviors of the person using the cell phone that creates the real problem. These behaviors are affecting employee anger, anxiety and stress levels.
