Introduction In this assignment I am going to cover the role of the teacher, the responsibilities that they have in the education and training environment. I will also discuss how to maintain a safe and supportive learning environment for your learners. To end the essay I will discuss the relationship teachers have with other professionals who work in the education and training arena. The teaching role and responsibilities in education and training 1.1 Explain the teaching role and responsibilities in education A teacher adopts many roles within the learning environment and has many responsibilities. One of the key responsibilities I feel for a teacher is to provide information, wisdom.
In this respect, the ultimate aim is to enable learners to understand how to take responsibility for their own development. Teachers can do this by planning and preparing teaching and learning activities that take account of the needs and well-being of individual learners as well as groups of learners. Some key aspects of a role as a teacher may be: carrying out initial and/or diagnostic assessments; clear communication with your learners, other professionals and stakeholders; promoting appropriate behaviour and respect for others; identifying and meeting individual learners’ needs; being aware of the support mechanisms available; being organised; being reflective, which means learning from successes as well as mistakes. What are my responsibilities as a teacher? As a teacher, my primary responsibility is to ensure that learners are enrolled onto the correct course, in terms of meeting their needs, abilities and aspirations.
Teachers need direction in order to meet academic proficiencies and to keep student’s interest (Laureate Education, Inc., 2010). After exploring several learning theories and strategies, my own teaching practices are most often modeled by several strategies and learning theories. The Constructivism Theory resonates in some of the techniques I am using in the classroom. Reflecting on student activities and the design my lessons ; I find students are most often engaged in learning activities that are student driven and lead to students constructing their own conclusions. Student often work at stations and learn through team building and planned movement.
Explain the functions of assessment in learning and development Initial assessment in identifying learner needs The Initial assessment (IA) process could be classed as the most important information gathering process. It not only allows the teacher to decipher if the student is enrolling on the correct course for them but also to collect details about the learners past educational experiences, upbringing conditions i.e. a care environment and any particular learning issues. The initial assessment can be both formal and informal. Formal IA may be application forms, references and other relevant documentation.
This assessment can ascertain as to whether the student has any background knowledge of the subject they are being taught and if they are applying for the correct level of education. Carrying out initial assessment can determine as to whether there are specific areas that a student needs to develop. ‘Diagnostic assessment is an evaluation of a learner’s skills, knowledge, strengths and areas for development. Formative assessments are ongoing throughout the course and a simple way of gauging how and what your students are learning. This then allows the teacher to amend the way in which they are teaching or what they are teaching to accommodate the results.
By interrogating, for example, teaching journals, evaluations, student/peer feedback, personal goals/outcomes, and/or role model profiles, teachers can reveal aspects of their pedagogy that may need adjustment or strengthening. Self-reflection is the foundation for reflective teaching. Going further than self reflection to understand student experiences is, for Brookfield, "of utmost importance" to good teaching (35). According to Jo Budden “good classroom management depends a lot on how you establish ground rules at the beginning of the course”. He also stated that “students need to know what you expect from them and what they expect from you during the course; that they need to know where the boundaries lie and what will happen if they step over the boundaries”.
Clem, Mrs. Dixon, Mrs. Jackson (inclusive classroom), Mrs. Anderson, Mrs. Graham and Mr. Stephen (self-contained classroom) techniques and viewpoints refers to ones beliefs and systematic instruction given to a pupil and how to develop an organized plan and administer information or strategy when confronted with dilemma, if that dilemma is social, academic, or profession related (Miller, 2009). In this discussion the pre-service educator will touch on some of the veteran teacher’s question about their personal philosophy. The theories of the different schools of philosophy are the foundation of selecting a personal philosophy and this paraprofessional recognizes and accepts as true theories and philosophies which related to this paraprofessional principle for a perfect approach to teaching are existentialism, behaviorism, and progressivism. In addition, the pre-service educator believes when the branches of philosophy overlap this different approach will be something that no school of idea have accomplish. By the unchanged nature of its scheme logic, ethics, and metaphysics will be included and supporting the Existentialism philosophy.
Level 3 PTTLS ASSESSMENT 1 1.1Explain what your actual or perceived roles, responsibilities and boundaries are as a teacher in terms of the teaching cycle. I perceive that my roles as a teacher are to deliver effective training and supporting the learner either directly or indirectly and to maintain an inclusive, equitable and motivating learning environment. I understand that as a teacher I will be identifying the need s of learners, planning and designing resources facilitating teaching and learning resources, assessing learners, evaluating learners performance and my own CPD. I am responsible for the health and safety, moral and physical welfare of my students/learners. I am also responsible for catering for students with learning disabilities.
And with good teachers come good students with good grades. And finally I said a principle, I say that because you want a responsible principal to make sure the teachers are educating the students the right way and handling all the school problems and to keep students safe. Those are the things I think make a good school
