Teaching as a Professional Career Checkpoint AED/201 - Teaching as a Profession January 6, 2012 Jeffery Call Teaching as a Professional Career Checkpoint There are many things that define teaching as a profession; some of them include a teacher having good organization skills, being prepared for anything, being able to adapt to any situation, and the ability to assess their students. All of these things help to define teaching as a profession. Each of these abilities is used by teachers on a daily basis. Keeping a classroom organized can save a teacher time, and keep his/her stress level at a minimum. It can also help students learn easily in an organized classroom setting. Teachers also have to be prepared for anything that may come their way. Classrooms are often very unpredictable and kids can do many things such as hurt themselves during class. There are also outside elements that can cause a distraction for the students. If a teacher is prepared then these elements will not disturb the students. Teachers also need to be able to adapt to new technology that may help them in the classroom. Technology is constantly changing and students are keeping up with it. If teachers and schools also keep up with technology it will make learning easier and more interesting for students. The last thing that defines teaching as a profession is the ability to assess the students that they teach. Teachers need to make sure that the students understand what they are teaching.
