UNIT 333 OUTCOME 1 (333) 1.1. Outline current legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures within own U.K. home nation affecting the safeguarding of children and young people In 1989 The children act brought in comprehensive changes to the legislation around the welfare for children and young people. This was to identify the responsibilities of the parents and those who work with children to ensure the safety of the child. The aims were to:- To encourage partnership between the authorities and the parents. To restructure the framework of the courts in regards to family proceedings. To redefine the concept of parental responsibilities and also to achieve a balance between protecting the child and the rights of parents to challenge state intervention. Then in 2004 The Every Child Matters guidelines were made part of the children,s act this was to ensure that there is a closer working relationship between all authorities,that there,s also a database of all records of children known to all authorities. 1.2. Explain child protection within the wider concept of safeguarding children and young people These are designed to prevent risk of harm to children and young people rather than react to them,the term Child Protection is used for policies and procedures which should be followed in suspect cases of harm or abuse. 1.3. Analyse how national and local guidelines, policies and procedures for safeguarding affect day to day work with children and young people When working with children everyone must be CRB checked to ensure that they are safe to work with children,and that they are fully understanding of the child protection act and follow all procedures.
