Amanda kept a lot of secrets to herself, like that she was pregnant and that she was black mailing Cherry’s dad. When Amanda’s body was found down at the waterfront it turned out that she was pregnant. No-body knew about this, not her friends or her boyfriend, not even her family knew about this. In the novel Kate stated that she knew nothing of this. She said “There were things Amanda wasn’t telling her.” Amanda didn’t share a lot of her secrets with the people in the group which just shows that the group didn’t really know her at all.
Character Analysis Essay In the book Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson I chose Melinda for my selected character. I chose her because she is the main character and she is in the whole book. I think I relate to Melinda in different ways. One of the reasons I think I am similar to Melinda is cause she doesn’t like her school at all like me. She is also a loner with no friends and I myself don’t have a large amount of friends.
This step reflects on the statue in the way that she doesn’t seem to have self-respect and self-confidence in society, as an individual. The word ‘unique’ is also significant through both personalities within the image. Both women are unique as the statue gives the impression of isolation without choice, and the woman appears to have chosen to isolate herself from society, as she looks to be reminiscing on something of great importance. “Experience purpose, meaning and realising all inner potentials”. This stage of the Hierarchy is figurative through the statue, as she has no purpose, and feels she has no potential within society, no meaning.
It is not an oversight that Curley’s wife, although a relatively minor character, was left nameless in Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men. She is not in the story as someone to relate to, and by giving her a name, it would bring more similarity to the reader. Her status also has to do with this. She is not regarded as anything significant, therefore she does not need a name. Steinbeck leaves her unnamed so she lacks something that makes her appear as an equal individual.
Suburban Sonnet by Gwen Harwood Suburban Sonnet is a bleak poem, highlighting the personal limitations that accompany maternal responsibilities and the role of a housewife. It is clear even from the title that Gwen Harwood intends to tell the reader tales of vain attempts by things of beauty such as sonnets to overcome the bleak and depressing reality of something as dull as suburban life. One of many important features of the poem, though only expressed in few words, is the powerlessness of anonymity. From the outset it becomes clear to the reader that the failed pianist has no name. As she is anonymous the reader is alerted that this woman is no one important and therefore should not be paid particular attention.

How does Livvie’s lack of education keep her from claiming an important place in society? Livvie has two obvious things that hold her back in society, her appearance and her speech. She even admits that she would come into the house “ragged and barefoot.” Her innocence also keeps her from participating in the life of a normal young girl. Being married off as a young girl, Solomon took Livvie’s innocence from her. He would not let her grow in to a woman, nor could she catch up to those who had an education if she even had the option of
