I know how we always want the next new makeup or hair product that’s going to make s look like the model in the commercial. Women can’t just run to the store in sweat pants because they value their appurtenance too much. Women don’t feel as confident when they don’t look nice, but men don’t really care either way. In the reading, “Do thin Models Warp Girls Body Image?” I agree with Nancy when she says thin models on the runway or on TV can cause very young girls to become anorexic or bulimic. Nancy says, “Girls are being bombarded with the message that they need to be super-skinny to be sexy.” (Hellmich 706) I believe that is very true when she says that but what young girls don’t realize is that you could be beautiful and sexy with any body type that you might have.
A particular artist by the name of Ludacris decided that enough was enough and determined that he would take a stand against abuse in his song, “Runaway Love.” This song, performed by Ludacris and featuring Mary J. Blige, voices their concern about the issues of rape, physical violence, gun violence, and unwanted pregnancy. They do this by unveiling three different stories of girls whose home life is less then glamorous. In “Runaway Love,” the song tells of three little girls that deal with different types of abuse. Ludacris says, “Yeah, I can only imagine what you goin' through, ladies/Sometimes I feel like runnin' away myself.” He feels this way because he understands the horrors of what they are going through. He grew up around people that struggled with physical and emotional abuse day in and day out.
Women athletes have made huge strides since Title IX but there is still room for improvement. The media coverage of female athletes needs to change for all the young girls who look up to these female athletes as role models and the mass media needs to take a more active role and cover male and female sports equally. (Will Anything Change, http://femaleathletes.wordpress.com/, May 5, 2008) The text was directed mostly toward women athlete community, while speaking to any woman who has had experience with the culture of the athlete community also; targeting male and female to understand the discriminating
But if Pattyn pulled up a gun to her father’s face her would tell her he loves her but do you really think he is telling her the truth? I would have to say that “Burned” is one of the best books I have read so far. This book can relate to a lot of teenage girls right now. It explains how Pattyn is a nobody in school and she wants to find love because she is tired of being lonely. But eventually when she is sent to her aunt J’s house she found
“I Know Why the Caged Bird Cannot Read” Critic and editor, Francine Prose in her argumentative essay “I Know Why the Caged Bird Cannot Read” strives to encourage high schools to give more difficult books to students so they can learn and grow. “Given the dreariness with which literature is taught in many American classrooms, it seems miraculous that any sentient teenager would view reading as a source of pleasure”(Prose 89). Prose embraces an abrasive attitude towards her topic in order to introduce her purpose, and she uses ethos and logos to convey her message. Prose's essay begins with her giving background knowledge about herself to her audience. By being a parent, as well as a teacher this develops a sense of credibility and allows her audience to believe what she has to say.
There will always be racial tension within the court system as long as society keeps it in existence. One way to stop this is by educating our police, and any other person involved in the criminal justice career. So many times a person is judged because of the race or ethnicity they belong to. An example of this would be 9/11. Islamic people were looked at as terrorists by many people because of the attacks that happened that day.
This fact has received a fair amount of attention lately from researchers and the press – and deservedly so.But the attention always focuses on the women: where they were when assaulted, their relations with the assailant, the effects on their mental health and careers, whether they are being adequately helped, and so on. That discussion, as valuable as it is, misses a fundamental point. To understand military sexual assault, let alone know how to stop it, we must focus on the perpetrators. We need to ask: Why do soldiers rape? Rape in everyday life is already unacceptably common.
Paul captures her target audience very well as every mother wants to make sure their kid is safe and sound. She builds up a contrasting character of herself throughout the essay because at the start Paul was portraying her personality as a lazy and unclean mother (Paul 816). However as the essay continues we see the type of ‘purifier wielding neurotic’ Pamela Paul has become, which she criticized initially. This justification for this drastic change in character is due to the repugnant truth of chemicals within cleaning products. As a result of the changing in temperament the reader can see how alarming this topic is, raising awareness of the danger of carcinogens in cleaning products, The origin of the change we see in Pamela Paul is due to the time when she discovers that there are no ingredients listed on domestic cleaning products (Paul 817).
Most journals hold back the full story when it comes to informing viewers about small organization rising up and trying to make a different. For instant, the people who joined up with black lives matter, most of their reason for joining is because the movement is about trying to inspire others to help or stand up for what’s right. They just want to see a new generation of leaders to rise up and fight. These journals hold back the truth because they don’t want to be responsible for making viewers join up with the organization (that’s if they want to). For example if the movement black lives matter formed a group of people at pubic park and they are trying to convey to citizens the meaning behind black lives matter.
I am writing to ask you to help get a message across to teens and let them know that its ok to be different. Peer pressure comes from one person following another and trying to fit in to be cool. Some teen are more worried about what others think about them then what actually makes them happy. The biggest topic that I would like your
