The last approach a person might take is slowly to wade into the water. This may be the result of both the physiological, the person wades in because his body slowly but surely gets used to the temperature and because comfortable enough to swim and enjoy. From the cognitive, the person wades in bit by bit because he knows that eventually he will get used to the temperature because he has done this before, thus he has experiential knowledge: storing, retrieving and using information exemplifies the cognitive process (20). After observing the process of how people go about getting into a body of water, the observer comes to the
What is my style? Every since Elementary School I was always taught that everyone had a different learning style. But after reading the article The Myth of learning Styles I'm starting to question that. I do think there is some truth in that preposition, because I think I learn better by working with my hands or actually doing things not just hearing it. I also believe that it depends on what is being taught.
Study Session #3 Learning Reports __________________________________ What is the most valuable concept learned in this study session: For me it had to be the need for me to allow more freedom to my students. I often try to create an environment full of fun, companionship with friends and have achievement but freedom is sometimes lacking thus quality is lacking. Why do you feel it is most valuable to you? I have been trained and have developed habits of wanting students to look to me for directives (i.e. going to the bathroom, sharpening a pencil, getting out of their seats, etc.).
And when your body and mind are strong, you are able to work hard and you are able to do all that you want to do all by yourself." We all know that yoga is aimed to unite the mind, the body, and the spirit. Yogis view that the mind and the body are one. Learners doing yoga will give them an increased awareness of their own body. Learners are often called upon to make small, subtle movements to improve their alignment.
To help me my learning process in class's like that i need to recreate the lectured material using my own visual tools and adapt my teacher's preferred teaching methods to my preferred learning styles. As a visual/physical learner, its is challenging for me when verbal or aural teaching techniques are used. I only consume bits of what i read or hear, i always have to look away from the speaker, think process all the words, and come up with what they represent visually. By learning that there are different learning styles and the style i predominately follow, I now know how to apply some simple techniques that will aid in my learning in my many class's that
In this essay you will see my findings on my particular learning style, personality type, and how I can now benefit by knowing this and how to expand my knowledge in implementing other way of learning. “Overall, learning is a blend of various styles.” (Pheifer, 2009). I discovered that my style of learning is that I am a visual learner! This came as a surprise to me since I always thought of myself as a hands on learner. Although in reflecting on this for a bit I realize that I do visualize and retain more information by reading and studying material, not just the hands on approach.
There have been many times when theorist and reflective learners have not been provided for throughout a lesson. This has been evident as many of my lessons have been based around a practical element. After realising how simply it is to put in information for reflectors and theorists, it now forms a part of my lesson, for example there may be information given followed by a cased study for reflective learners. I have also put tasks into my lessons so students have a chance to think back to the lesson and use the information and data to complete a task.
As we go on to find out later on in the essay, passing and failing, has a major role in the individuals’ engagement towards a task. In the essay I will be looking at the different types of motivation and how they affect engagement and the effect it has on different types of people. Motivation and the concept of passing and failing are not the only two factors which affect engagement though. The idea of pupil and teacher involvement has a major role in improving or diminishing engagement, as well as different learning styles individual’s can have affects one’s level of engagement, and how the individuals’ background can affect their engagement towards a certain task. Learning is process of maturation or change, and can even be possibly both of these in some cases, but this does not necessarily make genetic endowment a part of the process of learning.
Ashley Huffman Martha Copp ENG 0099 March 29, 2013 How swimming lessons paid off Learning something new can be a scary experience. One of the hardest things I've ever had to do was learn how to swim. After all, I was always afraid of the water, but I decided that swimming was an important skill that I should learn. In addition, just in case I am ever in a situation that I need to know how to swim. I also thought it would be good exercise and help me to become more physically attributed.
As I sit and think about it I recall learning more by experience. School for me set the foundation to learn, but I learned the most by making mistakes and seeing things for myself. Life is the biggest factor of learning in my opinion. Some may think school or their career teaches them more. But life lessons are the best and factor into your future lessons.
