Indian architecture is a representation of its culture, religion, and customs. Its architecture is India’s culture from its rich past which has allowed it to develop into the architecture that we see today. Through India’s progression in time, its culture and religion has influenced the architecture that is so well known throughout the world today. One specific example of its architecture, is the internationally known, Taj Mahal. People marvel at the fusion of the Persian, Central Asian, and Islamic architecture put into one super building. The tallest dome in the building has a diameter of 50 feet and towers over 213 feet tall. It has been said that the Taj Mahal is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The Taj Mahal was started in 1631, and took over 22 years to create, and the construction finally came to an end in 1653. The master mind behind the mega-structure was Shah Jahan. Before his accession to the throne, Shah Jahan was popularly known as Prince Khurram. This man had the Taj Mahal built as a dedication to his wife Mumtaz Mahal, who he had fell in love with in his teen years. The last breath took by Mumtaz was a secured promise from Shah saying he would build her only the most beautiful monument in her memory. Over 20,000 laborers slaved from six o’clock in the morning to seven-thirty at night, to get the marble creation done in the city of Agra. From the outside looking into the Taj Mahal, you see a beautifully laid garden blanketing the walls of the monument. To the farthest end of its complex you see the Jamuna River flowing behind it. As you step in, your eyes take in the gleam from the sun hitting the rich, milky white marble, which covers the Taj Mahal. As you look around and see all the different shapes and pieces, they look as if the gods had taken their own carving knives and started to shape the beautiful domes and slender minarets
