Essay on Taj Mahal Taj Mahal is one of the eight wonders of the world. The Taj is the most beautiful monument built by the Mughals. Which are the Muslim rulers of India. The Taj Mahal is built from white marble. To many people the Taj Mahal is a “symbol of eternal love”. Shan Jahan, the prince of the royal Mughal, got married to Mumtaz Mahal in 1612. She was not his first wife but among the rest she his favorite, having fourteen children. She died in 1613 because while giving birth child. When Mumtaz Mahal was about to die she asked for four promises from the emperor which was to: - for him to build her the Taj - for him to get married again - for him to be kind to their children - for him to visit the tomb on her death anniversary He kept the first two promises. The construction of the Taj Mahal began in 1631 and was completed twenty-two years about that. Twenty thousand people were employed to work on it. The material was brought in from all over India and central Asia and it took a fleet of 1000 elephants to transport it to the site. The cost of making this was 40,000,000 rupee. White marble was brought from Makrana, black marble from Surat, Sandstone from Siki and semi- precious stones from Tibet, Russia and Peru. Some of these stones include opal, corneliabs, lapis, turquoise, chrysolite, sapphires and bloodstones. The structure includes of a main gateway, an elaborate garden, a mosque (to the left), a guesthouse (to the right), and several other palatial buildings. Outside of the gate there were a number of mosques and small tombs of sandstone and marble, inside them would be other wives of Shan Jahan.
