They contributed by knitting warm clothing and making bandages for distribution by the military. They also organized committees such as the Canadian Patriotic Fund to send food parcels, cards & letters overseas. Women also even began pressing poster campaigns to patriotic mothers, wives, and girlfriends. [2] The women are basically trying to convince the women to send their beloved to war.

I believe Stimach’s essay followed the criteria of a successful argument by persuading me with strong details throughout the entirety of the argument. I think this argument would be a useful teaching tool to put in the textbook, Writing Arguments, because the author backed up her claims with reliable sources and responded to opposing views. Her argument was organized and she gave three specific reasons why students shouldn’t get married in college. Quality Sources One reason this is a good argument is that Stimach uses multiple pieces of factual evidence to support her claims. She moves from one topic to another with ease using facts from other sources frequently.
Over the years women have fought long and hard to be able to obtain and maintain legal rights and privileges that the male gender is born into. Females were molded and primed to play the part as an obedient wife and mother with instruction that your thoughts and opinions are kept to yourself. The perseverance of brave women helped today’s generation of women such as myself have the same equal rights as that of men. With all things you must have a burning passion in the pit of your belly to want to advance and defeat the injustice of this world. In order to put laws into effect there must be a group of people who all agree that new laws should be implemented because of majority vote.
This was real life accounts of the women who went through it, which goes a long way with showing what these times were really like during this point in history. If this film was just a narrator telling the audience what occurred during these times, it would be just like many other history documentaries that are made. Showing what these wartime women went through with excitement, humor, and sadness all in one made it that much more great. Seeing these women overcome all that was put against them made you want to rally behind
We side with the woman because we naturally assume she is caring and possibly protecting her family and children. The image of a woman as the protector is especially powerful. If we take the oppositional reading we see the woman as a rebel creating anarchy. The woman is defying her government and country. The soldiers clothing could be seen as for protection.
The draft being lifted and the Equal Rights Amendment focused attention on the topic of women’s equality in the military. Through out the 1970’s many barriers that stood in the way for women slowly began to fall. The Department of Defense increased their recruiting goals for women due the end of the draft. “In 1972, one in every 30 recruits was a woman. By 1976, one in every 13 recruits was a woman.”(History and Collections, n.d) Gender discrimination was a problem in the military and the Department of Defense knew that something had to be done due to the public presence of the Equal Rights issue.

This article also supports women in combat arms giving examples from other militaries and how they are constructed and how we should better our military by replicated their procedures. Though are we not a World Super Power should we not be the standard-bearers for military discipline and structure. It also should be known that by giving excuses to why women will or should not be allowed in combat arms is keeping this incorrigible proposition in place. Through media now Soldiers in Combat arms units will likely receive females differently because of how it has been portrayed, due to how they are supposed to respond instead of how they really feel.
It displays assertive and aggressive communication. Assertive communication by definition is “when needs or wishes are stated clearly with respect for oneself and the other person in the interaction”. (Salters, 2/19). Assertive communication is the most effective style in my opinion. It allow us to take care of ourselves.
