By letting teens try and figure out sex on their own only increases the risk of STDs and pregnancy. Not being informed is worse than being informed and knowing the safest way to approach the situation. Through Jane Friedman’s article “Do abstinence-only programs discourage teen sex” on CQ Researcher, one can learn that the sexual debate should be given to the comprehensive sexual education side. There are too many problems with the abstinence-only program and almost every argument on their side can be argued. Comprehensive sexual education is the best way to reduce the number of STD’s and teen pregnancy in the United
An unexpected pregnancy as a teen can be a devastating occurrence. It might change the entire course of his or her life to discover they are about to become parents. That is why it is so important for teens that are sexually active to learn the basics about having safe sex and protecting themselves from STDs and unintended teen pregnancy. I think that it is a good idea to offer young teens the different birth control options available such as the commonly known birth control pills or condoms. Also, today we have other options like the birth control patch, Depo-Provera (shot), female condoms, and IUD’s (inter-uterine device) to help lower and prevent teen pregnancy and the spread of
Birth control is very important for teenage girls whether they are sexually active or not. If they aren’t having sex, at least they will be prepared for when they actually decide to have sex. It helps them become more responsible and safe. Teenagers are starting to have sex at younger ages now. Parents know they can’t stop their teens from having sex but being on birth control can decrease their teens’ chances of becoming pregnant.
Analytic Response to “Does Watching Sex on Television Influence Teens' Sexual Activity?” Rebecca L. Collins wrote an article titled “Does Watching Sex on Television Influence Teens’ Sexual Activity?” in the book “Pediatrics.” In this article, she examined two recent studies to let us know how watching sex on television affects teens’ sexual activity. The main argument of the article is, “Does television influence teens’ sexual activity or not?” Collins’ argument shows that watching sexual television influences teens’ sexual activity, and this influence can lead to both bad and good consequences. She also gave suggestions on how we could reduce teens’ problems when it comes to the relationship between watching sex on television and teens’ sexual activity. Collins’ claim is that “expose[r] to television sex may hasten the initiation of sexual activity among teens”; this is an example of a way the influence is bad (543). On the other hand, television can “inform teens about risks and foster communication with parents”, which is a good influence on teens (544).
The matter in question here is, whether distributing condoms in public high schools actually influences teenagers to participate in sexual activity. Rush Limbaugh’s opinion in his article “Condoms, the New Diploma” is that giving condoms to teenagers will encourage them to have sexual relations, and what should really be done is stimulate them to practice abstinence. Limbaugh also discusses that the motivation behind the mass distribution of condoms is ridiculous and misguided (515). His proposal is to focus on supporting abstinence but to supply protection for those that choose to repudiate. Limbaugh expresses his concern about how AIDS are a problem that came as a consequence of the sixties and seventies- the age of “free love and rampant one-night stands” (516), and about the welfare modifications, like the use of condoms.
ENG126-1202B-09 LaKeshia Howard Phase 3 Individual Project: Homosexuality June 11, 2012 Homosexuality/Lesbianism; is being gay a personality trait that has been created by society or is it a deformity in the human genetics that is being studied by physicians? There are those that believe that society has created homosexuality/lesbianism by allowing the attraction to the same sex to live their lives as heterosexuals; then there are those that believe that being gay is something that a person is born with and passed down throughout generations. Is sexual orientation determined at birth? There are some scientist and doctors that believe that the sexual orientation of an individual is determined at the time of conception. They believe
Chicc, CC also uses a study that he conducted on a 34 year old pregnant female. During Chicc study of the effects of omega-3(fish oil) on a fetus its mother to help with depression. Gesh also used omeg-3(fish oil) in hopes to combat the aggressive nature of inmates. Both men findings were similar in results but had separate implications as studies in medication go. For example Gesch used a controlled study while although subjects where in confined conditions “working with 231 inmates for four months.” During the study he gave have the population of 231 inmates omeg-3 vitamins while the other half received the placebo.
There are ordinary people of society, only with special care needs. One of the most common known drug out there to help in controlling these conditions is Ritalin. Ritalin has had some successful stories, but there are other stories of how people would take their children off the drug due to the side effects and differences they noticed in their children after a long period of time. According to The American Psychological Association, a Dr. Peter Jensen conducted a period of trials on children to see if the medication actually worked and how well it worked. It came back a year later that only 60% of these children that were treated were successful, while the rest failed, but it is stated that this medication is not for everyone and does have severe side effects.
Studies have shown students who participated in comprehensive sexual education were no more likely to engage in sexual activity than a student who participated in abstinence-only programs. On the other hand, students who took part in abstinence-only programs were more likely to engage in unprotected sex than students who had participated in comprehensive sex education (Alford, 2003). In December 2004, the United States House of Representatives committee on Government Reform-Special Investigations Division, prepared a report for Representative Henry A. Waxman, chairperson of the committee responsible for determining the effectiveness of Abstinence-only education. Special Programs of Regional and National Significance- Community- Based Abstinence Education (SPRANS) provide
Summary Sex education is used to inform young people on relationships and intimacy. It also is used to inform them on all the negative outcomes sex can cause like diseases and unwanted pregnancies. Yet, programs like abstinence don’t really help people to stop having sex. Abstinence-only programs tend to take credit of the decrease on teen pregnancy but in reality it is the fact that 88% of teens have been taught in school about HIV and STDs. There are 3 federal programs that fund for abstinence-only education getting $102 million in the year of 2002.
