Unit II: SWOT ANALYSIS Fran Kirby The Toyota Motor Corporation is one of the largest and most diversified automotive manufacturers in the world. The company experienced a large setback with the recalls that occurred from 2010 to 2011 on their vehicles. In spite of those recalls, Toyota remains a strong global competitor within the automotive industry. They continue to invest in and continually seek ways to improve their brand. The company’s mission statement can be found on both their annual reports and on the investor relations area of their website. This statement is, “To attract and attain customers with high-valued products and services and the most satisfying ownership experience worldwide and in key markets including America” (Toyota Investor Relation, 2012). They seek to deliver quality, reliable vehicles at a low cost. Like all companies, Toyota Motor Corporation has strengths, weaknesses, threats, and opportunities. Toyota is a company that has put a strong emphasis on engineering. They are an analytically driven organization. The company’s filings with the SEC indicate they have potential future growth due to their research and development into both hybrid and hydrogen vehicles. Their research and development and emphasis on cars using alternative fuel(s) is a strength of this company as they move towards the future. The strength of Toyota’s research and development are evidenced in how they manage their diverse series of technologies. These technologies range from small, highly efficient internal combustion engines to the large scale truck and commercial vehicle engines and the advancement into hybrid technologies.
