It was founded on 6 June 1844 in London, England, United Kingdom, and it aims to put Christian principles into practice, achieved by developing "a healthy spirit, mind, and body." The YMCA is a federated organization made up of local and national organizations in voluntary association. Its primary activities involve developing a healthy lifestyle and youth development. Funds are received from donations and members of the association. The “Y” as it is more commonly referred to touches almost one out of every ten people in the world. It has contributors and members. Its mission statement is "The YMCA is dedicated to improving the quality of human life and to helping all people realize their fullest potential as children of God through development of the spirit, mind and body" (YMCA, 2012).
