Management 303 SWOT Analysis of McGraw-Hill Companies Section I – Organizational History/Mission Statement McGraw-Hill Companies establishment has been in business for over a hundred years and has seen many changes and experienced much upheaval in that time. It was founded in 1908 and celebrated over a hundred years of business in 2008. The publishing company employs over 200,000 people and conducts business in over 150 countries, truly a global company. McGraw-Hill provides services in the financial sectors, education and business information markets through leading brands. Companies like McGraw-Hill Construction, BusinessWeek, and Standard & Poor's are just a few to mention. The mission of McGraw-Hill is to provide necessary information and insight that assist individuals and markets to perform at their optimal peek. At The McGraw-Hill Companies, their primary mission is to serve their customers and clients, continuing global needs for complete transparency, knowledge, along with capital. To do so effectively, McGraw-Hill needs to see the 30,000 foot view. One way is by embracing, a diverse talent base that is distinguished by a couple key ingredients being performance and thought leadership. They aim to accurately reflect the wide-ranging markets that they serve consistently each day (McGraw-Hill, 2007). The five fundamentals for success are as follows: Strategic intent, financial performance, a stable portfolio, and consistent shareholder returns. These are the necessary pillars to increase the growth economically, and to permit individuals, markets and societies as a whole to reach their overall goals.
