Group 5 Swisher Case Max Swisher founded Swisher Mower by being lazy and using his brain. He lived in rural Missouri where one of his chores was to mow his lawn. He soon realized that if he were to make a gear box and tie a rope from the mower to the tree in the middle of the yard he could control the mower. So, he sat under the tree and mowed his lawn in concentric circles. He neighbors soon began to notice and began to ask him to make the same machine for them. And in his mother’s chicken house, began Swisher Mower. Max Swisher gained his first patent for the gear box in 1945. Today, Wayne Swisher, son of Max Swisher is the CEO/President of Swisher Mower. They have several innovative lawn and garden products. They range from zero turn riding mowers, tillers, blowers, trimmers and edger, trail-mowers and cutters, lawn vacuums and sweeps and log cutters. Swisher’s Competitive Position - Since the beginning, Swisher Mower and Machine Company has become and remained a profitable company. The founder of SMC, Max Swisher, has always instilled in his company and employees the importance of customer-oriented products and services for both the dealer and end-users in the market. Because maintaining a “small company” image has been an essential objective of Swisher’s core business values, SMC has been able to build personal relationships and individual loyalties to the company dealers and distributors. Since SMC has focused on constructing these relationship foundations, they have continually assured the security of these trade territories established to maintain a competitive position within the marketplace. Swisher Mower and Machine Company was one of eleven manufacturers in the riding lawn mower market in 1995.
