Swift’s A Modest Proposal HUM 112 February 4, 2015 Clearly stated state in your own words the “surprise ending” in the reading your selected. Swift’s, ‘A Modest Proposal’, is in spirit a powerful essay with the goals of filling young children mind and attention who are considered to be trouble to society. Swift explains how good the actions are and how it could better society. However, Swift has no children and as a male, needs natural maternal nature. Clearly identified the point in the reading when you realized that there were elements in the reading that surprised you. Swift’s explanation to poverty and too frequent beggar/orphan children is to consume them. I was first able to tell that Swift’s intentions would be surprising or different, when he states “I shall now therefore humbly propose my own thoughts, which I hope will not be liable to the least objection (The Victorian Web).” This was a large hint that his testing tact would not meet social norms and be questionable by a great number. Evaluated how successful the author was in convincing you to accept the validity of the “surprise ending” that was different from what you expected. Although Swift’s talent was to provide aid in consuming children, his surprise ending did not reach me. Swift was able to arrange financial, nutritional, and societal benefits for being a savage, but in fact, it would crave me to be a savage. In today’s world and my current standing in this world, I come in contact with all kinds of different foods and the services I need to live adequately and would not review Swift’s solution. Swift’s surprise ending was tough to take serious. While affecting, just like he point out to, it was distasteful. His ideas were possible, but too severe. Making the ending surprise-like give it that extra severe tone, further more weakening any thought of supporting this idea. Overall,
