Running on Empty In his book, Running on Empty, Peterson recognizes that the hope for modifying the political incentives normally hinges on the changing and the selfish attitudes of voters who have self-interest on political process, hence engendering in vitriolic partnership (Peterson pg. 218). His proposal for the reformation of the budget processes, on the other hand, seems to be myopic, since the pork-barrel politics are disgraceful despite the fact that the reform for the budget processes was proved to be impossible. Peterson has placed a great weight concerning the present generation that is supposed by various obligations to posterity; he says that he is worried whether the social promises of today are binding on the future generation, and if it would be possible to
Being the cynical, seemingly unreliable pedophile he was, Svidrigailov at first appears like one of the weakest examples of a character who would trigger positive change in someone else; the author, however, implies otherwise. Throughout the discussions he has with Svidrigailov, Raskolnikov seems to intensely hate the character and consider him inferior in moral sense; Raskolnikov’s ability to recognize Svidrigailov’s “low” characteristics is one of the initiators of his rational thinking process concerning morality (a process that did not seem to exist in him as strongly before he met Svidrigailov). His passionate disapproval of Svidrigailov’s actions (as well as his attempted charitable act towards Dunya to make up for those actions), reveals in Raskolnikov an extremely protective and caring nature as a brother - and above all, the fact that he has a true “sensor” for negative (and positive) characteristics in humans. Even though Raskolnikov’s thoughts and ideas from his half-mad monologues and scenes of delirium are
What are the negative aspects of stereotypes? I feel that there are a lot of aspect od stereotype, they can be hurtful and harsh to people. I believe that I would consider that to be the number one negative aspect. There are some people that act on these stereotypes with violence as well. No one want to
. . I’m C3”” (102). The ground moving is not literal, but rather symbolical of the imbalance that such a statement has struck on his personal control. The fear has left him reeling.
Do you accept the view in source V that Wolsey’s domestic policies were disappointing? Source V by Ian Dawson describes Wolsey to have carried ‘’an air of disappointment’’ implying immediately that his criticism on Wolsey’s domestic policies are to be of a negative view. The source states how Wolsey had ‘’promised more than was delivered’’ which again says Wolsey had disappointed in what he had said he would do and wasn’t able to live up to his word in delivering the ‘’promised’’ policies. So in total, source T portrays an image of discontent in Wolsey’s domestic policies due to the limited change seen on his part in bringing around the policies expected. However we know that had passed enough policies to cause a stir in society especially with the nobility where he would treat the ‘equal’ to the less privileged by for example taking away their enclosures of land and prohibiting any further enclosures to take place.
Without a timetable, Christopher feels lost and confused; he does not know what to do or where to go. Another habit of Christopher’s that Haddon displays in the story is Christopher’s inclination of the color red and his hate towards yellow. Anything that is yellow, Christopher will not go near; if food is yellow, he puts red food coloring in it before he eats. One might think this is strange, but Haddon is trying to make people understand that although Christopher’s tendencies are different, they all have reason just like anyone else’s habits

Is shocked and disappointed when this is not the case. • Stage fighting between M and T is good humoured, all for show, contrasting to Baz Luhrmann’s interpretation of the action, which presented T and M’s relationship as much more violent and serious. Which do you think is more likely / realistic / effective? Why? • Characters’ horseplay and immaturity is, nevertheless, the cause of fatal consequences.
The central flaw is that Singer uses a bad analogy of how the global economy actually is, it assumes that the child has somehow appeared there of his own devices and that a simple act will save him. Many of Singer’s key principals, such as the importance of impartiality and the irrelevance of distance are very strong and I find it hard to disagree with them. Whilst I do not agree that to adopt Singer’s solution will cause actual harm to me it is not convincing as the most effective way to solve the problems of poverty. To follow Singer’s principal will amount to everyone else jumping in the water and drowning to some small degree. I believe that while Singer develops his argument by claiming that while people in rich states can survive without luxuries; those in poorer ones where most are manufactured could not survive, as their economic base would fall apart.
The person who steals his food out of mere craving rather than need exhibits a simple sense of the term selfish. He knows it is wrong to steal, yet this craving is too strong. He MUST get this craving by any means possible. He rarely thinks about the consequence of his actions as he rationalizes that he needed to steal since he had no money. An animal in search of safety and security will find refuge in some brush or a hole in the ground.
