[13] By May 1910 Stravinsky was discussing his idea with Nicholas Roerich, the foremost Russian expert on folk art and ancient rituals. Roerich had a reputation as an artist and mystic, and had provided the stage designs for Diaghilev's 1909 production of the Polovtsian Dances. [14] The pair quickly agreed on a working title, "The Great Sacrifice" (Russian: Velikaia zhertva);[15] Diaghilev gave his blessing to the work, although the collaboration was put on hold for a year while Stravinsky was occupied with his second major commission for Diaghilev, the ballet Petrushka. [14] In July 1911 Stravinsky visited Talashkino, near Smolensk, where Roerich was staying with the Princess Maria Tenisheva, a noted patron of the arts
His entrance was always the last and most spectacular and included lots of people bowing to him. Louis was a good dancer. He was taught by Charles Louis Beauchamp who became responsible for the choreography in the opera- ballets produced by Lully and the comedy ballets produced by Moliere. You could say that was the start of his career as a composer. Menken attended Rochelle High School in his home town and after graduation went to Pre-med school to become a dentist. Lucky for us he later changed his major to music. After college Alen attended the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theater Workshop in New York where he worked at local clubs writing jingles and songs as an accompanist. Alen Menken got his first big break in January of 1979 with Howard Ashman in the Off-Broadway production “God Bless you, Mr. Rosewater.” Three years later he received a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Music in his Off-Broadway Production “Little Shop of Horrors” and from that in January of 1987 Menken was given his first Oscar nomination for a song with in it called “Mean Green Mother from Outer Space.” In 1990 Menken was nominated for three Oscar nominations and three Golden Globe Nominations and went on to win two of each for his work in the Walt Disney production “The Little Mermaid”.
In this essay I will be talking about the differences in the issues the story deals with, the characters of each story, as well as the musical differences. Spring Awakening, which opened on Broadway in 2006, takes place in late-19th century Germany. Although it is set in a different time and place, most of the issues dealt with in this show are very relatable to teens of today such as, sexuality, abortion, rape, child abuse, and suicide. All of these issues are clearly stated in the show without having to look at another meaning behind them. On the other hand, Wicked, which opened on Broadway in 2003, deals with the issues of magical powers and the fine line of good and evil.
Myrtha, the Queen of the Wilis, summons Giselle from her grave in order to initiate her into the community. A despondent Albrecht comes to pay his respects at Giselle’s grave, and is almost killed, but with Giselle’s intervention, his life is saved, and Giselle rests in peace (Pennsylvania Ballet, 2012). By empirically examining this ballet, we hope to produce a more complete understanding of the score written, intrinsically related to the choreography and the particular period and style in the history describing the Romanticism and the Romantic Ballet Giselle, the music of Giselle: Adolphe Adam’s Score, and Giselle’s Choreography Accompanying the Music Score. GISELLE Romanticism and the Romantic Ballet Giselle Giselle is a romantic ballet choreographed by Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot. Adolphe Adam beautifully composes the music.
