Surviving My Everyday Life

I would love to spend my days looking through a camera lens, escaping into stories and drifting within the sounds of a song. As long as I have any of these, I will probably survive anything, including the apocalypse if need be. Photography gives me the freedom to create stories and bring ordinary objects to life. If I angle my camera from behind a toy towards a chair I can make the toy seem life-sized and the chair gigantic. The same picture can be manipulated on the computer to replace the toy with a person and give them fairy wings, or perhaps put a “giant” person on the chair. A simple portrait can be turned into a masterpiece by having the person’s face lit with a soft light but keeping everything else in shadow. When taking pictures is not a possibility, I immerse myself in to the worlds that live in the pages of a book. I can experience new things or live a different life through a character. I can travel into the future, where robots are real and interstellar travel is possible. Perhaps I could go back to the past, to a time when not even buildings exist. Depending on the character’s adventure’s I can live an exciting, surreal life without having to move an inch. If by any chance I don’t have a camera or a book close by then I turn to my reliable iPod-earphones combo and put on some music. If I’m on a loud, crowded bus I blast some rock or pop and have everything else fade away. I can put on some instrumental music to focus on my homework or help me get through the tiring task of studying. After a rough day, I can lie on my bed and listen to whatever comes on, relaxing with not a care in the world. Photography, stories, and music; these three things will help me survive the everyday life of a high school
