You don’t always get what you want They always got what they wanted, until one day. In the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald and The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway portrayed are two women Daisy who is beautiful and wealthy and Brett who is gorgeous and very appealing. Correlating actions taken by both Daisy and Brett leads them to not being able to have what they want. Daisy from The Great Gatsby wanted to be with Jay Gatsby, a soldier she had met when she was younger but she was a wealthy girl, “Her voice is full of money” (12) and he was poor, so her parents didn't let her get married like she wanted to. She later got married with Tom Buchanan a wealthy man. Daisy was never completely satisfied her husband was cheating on her, but the she met up with Gatsby again through her cousin Nick years later. After a while of them catching up and fooling around, Daisy ran over her husband's mistress with Gatsby's car, so she decided to leave Gatsby with the blame and go back to her husband. “With every word she was drawing further and further into herself, so he gave that up, and only the dead dream fought on as the afternoon slipped away, trying to touch what was no longer tangible, struggling unhappily, undespairingly, toward that lost voice across the room”(100). She was never able to be with Gatsby like she wanted. Brett from The Sun Also Rises is always with different guys. She’s married, getting a divorce but also engaged at the same time. “Her names Lady Ashley. Brett’s her own name. She’s a nice girl” I said. “Shes getting divorce and shes going to marry Mike Campbell” (46). But she wanted to be with Jake, an injured soldier that she took care of at war. :”She was a V.A.D in a hospital I was during the war.”(46)But she can’t be with him, because she can’t be in a commitment due to prior heart aches and because he is impotent due to an injury at
