The story begins when the narrator reads about his younger brother, Sonny, being arrested for selling and using heroin. The narrator then continues his day as a high school algebra teacher, but cannot seem to get Sonny off of his mind. As the day progresses, the narrator begins to think of Sonny when he was the age of his students. He states, “When he (Sonny) was about as old as the boys in my classes his face has been bright and open, there was a lot of copper in it” (98). The panic and disbelief of such news lasted throughout the entire day, including his encounter with one of Sonny’s friends after school let out.
I would tell him what was going on in school, how good I was doing in sports, or how bad of a play I made. He would always sit there and listen to everything I had to say. Telling my dad these stories meant the world to him; he would always tell me “I wish I could have been there for that”. After two and a half years in North Carolina, my mother decided to take an early retirement and move back to South Carolina. So now, we are back in the same town as my father and brother, as my parents promised the day they told us they were getting a divorce.

Just before he retired, one of his daughters and one grandchild passed away. A few months before Jefferson died he counted his blessings and decided that he had a good life. On his deathbed he handed his last daughter the last letter he wrote telling her a true goodbye. I think that this article was a good article because it shows that Thomas Jefferson actually cares about his family and not just politics. One reason for this is the article says “His political duties often forced him to be away but, he wrote hundreds of letters sharing news, giving advice, and occasionally scolding.” Meaning, even after his long days of work he still managed to find time for his two daughters.

He's been there for friendships being built and friendships being lost, he's been there through divorce parents, moving out for the first time, and moving back home, and then moving out again. I tell him my darkest secrets, he never judges them, and never tells a lie. He's been through the hard days, weeks and months of training, boot camp and deployments, always greeting me with a smile. Through the stress of planning a wedding and moving to a new town. He's been there for the loss of loved family members and the lost of loved animal.
For a long time 5 years to be exact I despite my father for not stepping up supporting his children like a father should. I remember saying “How can any good man give up on his children”. Before I had so much hatred in my heart negative feelings against my father. But during his passing I started to regret a lot of things I said and even felt the worse, he became the sorrier I was but, words couldn’t express the way I felt during that time all I wanted was to let my father know I was sorry for my actions and go home in peace knowing his daughter loved, and forgiven him. Above all, our relationship and his battle with cancer inspired and influenced me to become a better person.
