The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services which is also known as CMS, guesses that growth in health spending will continue to outpace GDP over the next 10 years. I feel that the government is in trouble when it comes to health care. They are trying to figure out how to provide all Americans with health care, and not go broke. Not only that, but there are many other factors that contribute to the rising expenditures that might be submissive to the policy, such as investment in information technology. IT a good use of technology, such as electronic medical records, has been encouraged and researched for its potential to share more information and reduce overhead costs.
Health care providers should provide care that meets the needs of each individual patient, including the use of appropriate advances in medical technology. Health care should also be non-discriminatory, providing the same quality of service regardless of race, ethnicity, age, sex or health status” (Quality of Care, n.d.). The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) named a program ‘the Physician Quality Reporting Initiative’ (PQRI), based on the 2006 Tax Relief and Health Care Act (TRHCA). The Act necessitated the creation and implementation of a physician quality reporting system which includes incentive payments for those eligible professionals who disclose measures of quality taken for covered Medicare beneficiaries. The quality reporting is done on a voluntary basis offering contributing physicians bonus payments based on Medicare claims for services.

Health Information Exchange Professor Crossley Ebony Drummond October 21, 2013 Health Information Exchange The Electronic health information exchange helps medical professionals such as Nurses, doctors, pharmacist and other health care providers. This system also allows patients to properly access and safely shares the patient’s medical records efficiently, bettering speed, quality and the cost of patient care. Electronic health information exchange cannot replace intercommunication between the patient and the patient’s physician, but it can greatly improve the completeness of patients medical record in which cam effect the care positively, current medications and other information that is carefully abstracted during visits. Sharing patient records properly will better inform decision making at a certain point of care. This can allow providers to avoid re-admission, avoiding medication errors, lower duplication testing and improve diagnosis.

Health information system or HIS; is a system for the collection and/or processing of data from an assortment of sources, and using the information for policy making and management of health services. It could be paper-based or electronic. HIS incorporates data from civil/vital registration, censuses, population surveys, facility surveys, individual records, service records and resource records for policy making and efficient management of health services. (web.worldbank.org) There is general agreement among all that a strong HIS is a key component of any health system. Any type of physician’s office would greatly benefit from health information systems.
As quoted in the book, “As advances in medicine and disease prevention have increased life expectancy in the United States, the benefits have disproportionately gone to people with education, money, good jobs, and connections” (Scott 2005:29). Another example given in the book is that class matters within marriage or romantic
HRSA projects that, absent aggressive intervention, in the year 2020 the shortage will grow to more than 1 million RNs-representing a shortage of 36% (2). The “Baby boomers” are also aging and entering retirement. This has placed additional demand for the services of Nurses. Demands for Nurses is high and is expected to increase as more of the population gains access to healthcare reform. According to the American College of Nurses, “the nursing shortage is very real and very different from any experienced in the past and will grow more serious over the next 20 years” (3).
The Rise In Health Care Spending And What To Do About It Abstract and Introduction Abstract Reforms for slowing the growth in health care spending and increasing the value of care have largely focused on insurance-based solutions. Consumer-driven health care represents the most recent example of this approach. However, much of the growth in health care spending over the past twenty years is linked to modifiable population risk factors such as obesity and stress. Rising disease prevalence and new medical treatments account for nearly two-thirds of the rise in spending. To be effective, reforms should focus on health promotion, public health interventions, and the cost-effective use of medical care.
Vicki Parker Professor Oz Aydemir ECO 110 8 May 2014 The Impact of Health Insurance Health care is one of the fastest growing sectors of the economy. In the past ten years health insurance premiums have doubled. The health care market cannot be analyzed by using the normal supply-and-demand curve, due to informational problems, market power by suppliers, and government intervention. Balancing the cost of care with the quality of care is a major issue, because the market structure of the health insurance industry impacts rising health care costs and limits access to affordable health insurance and health care. Health care is a unique product compared to other goods and services, as it is not easily defined.
