Discrimination is the denial of opportunities and equal rights to individuals and groups because of prejudice or for other arbitrary reasons. (i.e) Discrimination is the act of doing something harmful to groups of people in the form of any means necessary to stop or harm people by not allowing a person that is different in race, sex, and religion the same benefits that you have. Stereotyping and prejudice is the over generalizing statements about groups, but not actually doing anything to them in any way. (i.e.) Believing that anyone that is different is wrong.
However many countries in the world do not support this view. We, as citizens of the United States of America, are to spread this ideal throughout the world. Many Americans support this theory of American Exceptionalism by fighting for America, supporting or working for the American government, or just going out into the world to underprivileged, developing nations as an American. American Exceptionalism is still thriving today and has throughout the history of America. As Seymour Martin Lipset states in his book, American Exceptionalism: A Double Edged Sword, America is not like the other European nations that our Founding Fathers came from.
On the other hand, the representation of the American values as shown in the inaugural address of President John F.Kennedy is meant to spark off humane values for the citizens. The era of enlightenment in America brought a lot of changes especially to the general life of the people. Enlightenment was a very critical process through which the success as well as the progress of America was based upon. It formed a foundation through which the development of all sectors of America such as political, religious and social aspects was initiated. Throughout a long period of time, the values instilled have formed a crucial part of America’s development and it’s relative to people of all walks of life.
To fully understand what it what it means to be an American is a daunting task. To be an American is to do and and believe a variety of different things, actions, and ideals. The best one can do to convey the true meaning of being an American is to try and explain a few of these things. Among the many aspects of being an American, the most important is the belief in the idea that one deserves to make our wildest dreams a reality. In the story, “The Earth on Turtle's back,” an ancient chief tells his wife, who'd had a cogent dream previously, “When one has such a powerful dream, we must do our best to make it true.” The American Dream is the confidence in the opportunity to live a life the way you wish to live.
Jordan Lee Artis English 101 Professor Gail Lighthipe July 8, 2013 As July fourth comes and goes three topics enter the minds of American: immigration, is it really possible to achieve the “American Dream”, and finally what is an American. All these topics can be answered or solved if you think about it. Immigration is a touchy, controversial subject when it comes to should it be allowed or not. This idea should be pondered upon with care, accuracy, and equality. Immigration is not a bad idea; the more immigrants, the more the country is assimilated culturally.
Whether it be being economically stable on your own, or it be coming to America to enjoy the freedom we have to offer. The American dream is sought out differently in a lot of people's eyes. Bob Herbert, author of the Passage, “Hiding from Reality” shows the bold truth of what we're truly facing with today and how it's impossible to achieve the American dream. Brandon King, author of the Passage, “The American dream: Dead, Alive, or on hold?” focuses more on the dream of America today. Michael Ford, Founding director of Xavier University's Center for the Study of the American Dream, and Tamara Draut, Vice presiden of policy and programs at Demos, both guest speakers on the radio show “The Daily Circuit” titled, 'What is the 'American Dream' today?
We are governed by public and private interests. These interests are based on our very own constitution that is set up to give everyone an opportunity to succeed in our growing culture. American Exceptionalism is partially a reflection of our nation’s long history, but Americans can tend to be ethnocentric and judge other cultures by the standards of their own. When a lot of people think of America, they think about a country that is made up of a mixing bowl of races and ethnicities. They think of a culture that is founded on constitutional rights and god given freedoms that everyone should have.
We all have versatile culture backgrounds, personalities, and traditions. The belief that everyone has the chance to advance themselves and become anything they want is one of the only ideas that link everyone in America together. Believing in this idea, and having faith in the system to follow through on this commitment, is what it means to be an American. This idea and its examples

James Trislow Adam in 1931, wrote the book Epic of America, “life should be better, richer, and fuller for everyone; with support for each according to their ability or achievement,” regardless of their social class or circumstance of birth.
