Elizabeth Shreve September 20, 2015 Eng 111 4-5:15 Professor Roof Paper 1 Prosecution in the Virtual World Many online gamers will pay for virtual items with real money. Some people want laws in effect for the real world to protect their rights to their belongings. Theft in the virtual world occurs quite often. In an article titled, “Should Gamers be Prosecuted for Virtual Stealing?” the author Alex Weiss calls out a young teenage boy who is being prosecuted for stealing in a video game. It seems to be a legal blunder that is very straight forward, but becomes a heated debate.
For years Netflix has been entering into deals with electronics manufacturers such as Song and Samsung to include the Netflix software with their devices, allowing the end-users to access the Netflix streaming service. Netflix needs to foster the creation of technologies that allow fast and easy access to the Netflix streaming service, while providing high quality content. The second major challenge is the growth in competition in the video streaming market, Netflix is competing against Hulu, Amazons subscription service, HBO Now, Google Inc. and others to dominate the video streaming market, and, at the time of this case study, was winning the battle against the newcomers, but this lead would surely decrease as other streaming services entered into agreement with movie and television studios. The third challenge that Netflix is facing is getting involved in original programming, creating their own series and movies. Netflix has had quite a bit of success here with shows such as ‘House of Cards’ and ‘Marvel’s Daredevil’, but other video streaming suppliers have started to create and release unique content as well, and some of the major media companies are pushing back against the unique content on streaming services by removing their own content from those streaming services.
The media had to go through $1.25 billion in damage and lost battle. In fact, the industry claims that 30-70% of the videos on YouTube are illegally downloaded. Since customers were now watching movies for free, this put a great impact on them. Sales of DVDs were declining while downloading and watching movies online were growing. So, to solve this problem, the movie and television studios decided to do something about this.
Leonard Birts ENF 234 Computers in Law Enforcement October 30, 2011 The growing danger from crimes committed against computers, or against information on computers, is beginning to claim attention all around the world. This lack of legal protection means that businesses and governments must rely solely on technical measures to protect themselves from those who would steal, deny access to, or destroy valuable information. Self-protection, while essential, is not sufficient to make cyberspace a safe place to conduct business. Countries where legal protections are inadequate will become increasingly less able to compete in the new economy. As cybercrime increasingly breaches national borders, nations perceived as havens run the risk of having
Fast-forward to today and people are copying music from Internet sites for their own personal enjoyment as well as to make extra money. These reproductions have resulted in a loss of revenue to numerous artists and have resulted in lawsuits against consumers and businesses who continue to distribute music with no regard for the copyrights. The Case Boston-based company ReDigi designed a way to share or sell music on-line while steering clear of copyright infringement. According to Johnson (2013), the company stated that, “Our technology gives you the tools to access ownership rights to your digital property so that you can sell a used mp3 just as you would sell a used CD should you decide you no longer wish to own it” (para. 3).
And accuracy further reduces speed. With up to 7.8% of tested sites being wrongly blocked you begin to wonder if Conroy is trolling. And of course with such dodgy plans for censorship, there is a strong opposition. Also opposing the filter is internet superpower Google. They comment that "moving to a mandatory ISP filtering regime with a scope that goes well beyond such material (child abuse and terrorism) is heavy handed and can raise genuine questions about restrictions on access to information."
The brand personality has been diluted by connecting odd Virgin businesses; Virgin has interests in selling trans-Atlantic flights, records, cola, lingerie, electricity, trains, concerts, holidays and mobile phones, to name but a few. As the group has diversified, the brand image and it’s message has weakened. The only things that is consistent and applicable on all it’s sub brands and extensions are color red, the name original Virgin hand-drawn text and Richard Branson. Those are still powerful visual devices, but Virgin has to cut on its individual sub brands because they are weakening the brand image. Expand internationally- develop bundle business flight, rent-a car and hotel in undeveloped countries.
Prior to polices established by Law of Commerce Henkel Iberica participated in aggressive pricing to increase market share. The consequences of this were a negative effect on margins, contribution margins, and profits on sales. To contend with its competitors, Henkel invested in promotions and additional product mix to increase sales, but due to lack of accuracy in long range forecast it was often left with either over stock that is difficult to reallocate or loss of sales due to out of stock products which eventually led to a decrease of net earnings in sales year before. Accurately forecasting demand is the key to every strategic, tactical, and operational decision designed to keep our business competitive. Obviously it is evident that Henkel Iberica current process isn’t working due to challenges of forecast exactness and demand variability for all the products it offers.
Analyze Netflix business model How does Netflix change the video distribution industry? Netflix, headquartered in Los Gatos California was founded by Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph. The core of Netflix business model is deeply rooted in the reason that inspired its creation. Hastings had to pay $40 as late charges for a rented copy of Apollo 13 movie which was then the popular pay-per-rental system that would charge late fees. However, couple of years after its inception Netflix introduced a monthly subscription model of flat fee where users can go for unlimited DVD rentals without due dates, late fees, shipping or handling fees, or per title rental fees.
The portrayal of how citizens should triumph over an oppressive government and free the state from authoritarian shackles is a harshly debated topic both within academics and media. Hollywood, and other movie industries, generally adapts a more violent form of social movements and revolutions due to the fact that, generally, explosions & action scenes sell more than Indian workers on hunger strike. One of the newer blockbusters “V for Vendetta” had been fairly important icon many recent riots and social movements such as Arab Spring, Gezi Protests & Occupy Wall Street... Etc. In the movie, the main character,V, opposes the oppressive and authoritarian British government of 2020 (Smith 2006).
