A Modest Proposal For Reducing Truancy Imagine a world where there is perfect attendance, outstanding achievements for every student and the ability to be anywhere at any given time with no problems. Unfortunately the reality is far from just that, many students are forced to miss school at a very early age due to the lack of discipline in their home lives. A few blocks over from the school a curly blonde headed little girl, sits and stares out the window tears filling her big blue eyes as she sits watching the children run and play on the play ground. Knowing that she has the drive, desire and determination to be a perfect student, but her reality is very far from that. Her parents are avid drug addicts and alcoholics who will not lay the bottle down long enough to see that she gets a bath at night and that her homework is done. Once a child is on a high school level they are the ones who are held responsible for their fines when found guilty of truancy. Unfortunately, these kids continue to skip school and feel they are above the law. With home foreclosures on an all time high, the city and school districts should be able to purchase these homes at a extremely discounted rate or lease these homes from the banks to be set up as truancy homes. After the first offense, it will be required that the child spend 30 days in a truancy home. They will be bused to and from school and their activities will be limited. When the weekends roll around they will be forced to do school work to make up the time they have missed from school, so ultimately it will be school 7 days a week.
