Austin Smith Subway Abstract Article The article I chose to review is based on how Subway Franchise has surpassed McDonalds corporation as becoming the largest fast food restaurant chain in the world. The article was published by Julie Jargon on a journalism site. It also goes into detail about Subway’s history a bit and gives a brief summary of why Subway is so successful. The article describes how Subway had 33,749 franchises in total which was about 1,000 more stores than McDonalds had placing them on the top. Although Subway may hold the most franchises in the world with approximately a 10 to 15 billion dollar revenue McDonalds still greatly surpasses them on that aspect with around a 24 million dollar revenue. Subway’s key marketing scheme is by working closely with the customer and building a trusted relationship in this way. As a current employee for Subway I know this all too well because our main goal is to make sure the customer leaves happy. The key ingredients to achieve this are to maintain a good atmosphere through positive interactions, work quickly but efficiently, and always make sure the customer is getting a good product. Subway runs great marketing schemes such as the “buy one get one sandwich free” day that they offer, or reducing the price of every sandwich on the menu to only five dollars excluding the premium subs. In my opinion, Subway is a much better choice than other fast food restaurants for a couple of reasons. For one, their top priority is the customer and they zone in on a positive atmosphere to make the customer feel comfortable by allowing them to choose exactly what and how much of it they want on their sandwich versus other places where you tell them what number you want and that’s what you get.
