Subject Centered Curriculum Which curriculum design model discussed in this chapter do you believe has the most potential for improving learning for all students? Why? Subject center curriculum was the first and oldest American school curriculum design in the world. The curriculum is built around one or more subjects. The content is important for the students to learn and its major teaching method is done by lecturing. This curriculum includes what the standards of learning are and the models by which the teachers promote in the classroom. There are several strengths and weakness that made this curriculum improving for students. Strength of this curriculum is that students like it: they're used to it and it fits their idea of what school should be. Another advantage of the subject centered curriculum is it is efficiency. It enables students to cover a lot of content in a short time. The weakness for teachers is that they wouldn't be able to establish their teaching styles to help students learn in a creative way. The weakness to the student is that they simply memorize what they need to know in order to pass a test, instead of actually learning it. If teachers are willing to change their teaching styles and lower the level of instruction to the period at which student can become a outstanding learner the curriculum can be effective.
