Project : Study of animal tracks. This would basically be an EVS project. Level/Class : Grade 1 students Duration: 7 days in total. This will include one hour of field work & more time for research on internet at home with parents & research at school using guide books. Venue: School surroundings. A) Material & Preparation Required: 1) Ask the gardener to wet the ground in the school premises the night before starting the project. 2) Pencils & books for drawing the tracks. 3) Rulers to measure the lengths of the tracks. 4) Magnifying glass to observe tracks closely. 5) Chalks to draw around the tracks already studied. 6) Caps for all children. 7) Reference books which can be used as a guide. B) Introduction of project: I would ask students if they have ever observed the feet of animals/birds? And would also ask them if they are similar to our feet. Then I would introduce them to the project topic “Observing Animal Tracks.” I will tell them to observe the tracks & decide if the animals were walking on 2 legs or 4. If they had hooves, nails, claws. I would also tell them to observe if they were walking or running etc. Kids can also use the internet along with parents, as a guide to figure out the tracks they have discovered. C) Language Practice: English subject can be taught & focused on at this stage. This can be done by identifying the names of animals & also the structure of their tracks. New words can be introduced & explained for example: Hooves. Children can be encouraged to say what ‘Hooves’ are & which animals have hooves etc. Can also touch upon singular & plural examples here ex:Ox – Oxen etc. D) Field Work: Maths will be used at this stage. Kids should be taken as a group of 10 at a time with one teacher. They should be dressed appropriately wearing caps if sunny. Guidelines such as no touching the tracks, no plucking flowers & no
