Students Should Be Penalized for Missing Class

Have you already heard “every day to go to school is happiness”? Attending school is not only to sharpen the knowledge but also to communicate face-to-face with close friends or lovely teachers. However, as a matter of fact, some students quit the class maybe for their playing or seeing others do. To amend this status, it is suggested that students should be penalized for missing class. In my viewpoint, I do agree with this because of three reasons. The first one is to encourage students’ attendance and get good grades. Regular attendance and participation are critical to students’ success in the tests. Missing class regularly makes them lack a bunch of information, including professors’ understanding, test plan and even in-class tests, because there exist some tests which teachers cannot give for students in the next lesson. As a result, students will receive zero point for those, which might affect the final mark of the semester. Furthermore, penalization makes class more formal and reduces the possibility for students to act badly. A class consists of a lecturer, students and obviously lecturer is the upper person. It is commonly said that “after you” is good manners. Absence in class may show disrespect, which makes teachers unpleased, unenthusiastic in lecture and negatively affect to other students attending in the class. Moreover, it is stated that the problem of students being absent from school seems to be directly related to crimes of youth. If students are frequently present in class, the ability of youth people committing crimes will limit to some extents. About 80% of the current offenders in youth detention centers in New York have records of being absent more than a month every year, and about 40% of the offenders have records of being absent for more than two months every year.
