Through the correction function of juvenile court system, young offenders are influenced to realize their potential by helping them to build acceptable vocational and interpersonal skills. Over the years, the juvenile justice system in the United States have been facing a major challenge trying to balance between punishments and transforming the behavior of young offenders (Heiss, 2006). The juvenile justice system has two divergent philosophies the conservative and liberal philosophies. The conservative philosophy is based on the premise of retribution. Retribution helps to remove offenders from the society through incarceration.
Their key arguments are: when a youth does something, he doesn’t think twice. This is because their brains are still developing. The youths who commit crimes should be sent rehabilitation, so they do not commit crimes again. Many researchers have come to a conclusion that putting youths in prison with other criminals can effected the mentally, some of those effects turns them into criminals. Now I am going to talk about my point of view.
Once and offender opens and allows the freeness to sink in and accept it they of often start focusing on their goals and faith that they can succeed without reoffending. There are many programs that help offenders whom are reentering into the community such as college programs, federal grants, business programs, development programs, housing support and many more. Reentry is the process of reintegrating of the transitions of an offender from the prison institution or jails back in to the community. The reentry process can be effective if the correct monitoring is in place. According to the Urban Institute study in 2005, the major keys to an effective system in prison reentry is the proper monitoring of an offender that is released into the parole community supervision.
Along with the changing physical environment, offender treatment is undergoing its own updates. More emphasis is placed on helping inmates develop employable skills when released. This helps not only the inmate but also provides some form of compensation for the victim as
Rehabilitation William Shamblin CJA 234 January 10 2011 Fred H. Stansbury Rehabilitation With rehabilitation is where a person is given the tools to change the way he or she thinks and does work related jobs that he or she has done in the past. A person is sentenced to jail, he or she will have to go through a system to show him or her each other that what they did is not right and that he or she must change the way of thinking and how the change his or her habits. The state will give each inmate jobs that correlate to the outside society and so that the inmate can live a life of normalcies, and to be a productive citizen. There are many people that we as care workers need to communicate with. The most important person is the person that we are supporting at that time, gaining consent from them before even assisting them and making sure that you keep them involved with choices at all times. There is also family and friends that are involved with the residents. There may also be times were you may have to communicate with other professionals, weather this may be the resident's doctor or a nurse. Communication between work colleagues is also very important as this is the time were you are able to inform other members of staff
Like what Xavier said in his argument, the government would wasting money on the prisoners, I believe that’s true the government is helping giving the prisoners a second chance and to be educated. Voluntary, prisoners have a choice to choose whether or not they'd want to do the job, but according to law the prison labor is recommended for these people and to help them. Though they may seem vicious and cruel it shouldn’t stop them from gaining new skills for a job industry. Employment may include baker, laundry, kitchen, wood work, retailer shops, farming, gardening, community work and cleaning. This form of labor can help with their rehabilitation.
In a social work environment communication can be an essential tool in order to meet the needs of a vulnerable adult. It is a basic requirement in the social care role to communicate with the individuals you care for their families and also with other members of staff involved with their care on a daily basis. Communicating with the other staff members you work with shows team working and continuity of care. It also ensures health and safety issues are recognised and reported. One form of this communication is a verbal handover at the beginning and end of each shift, there is also the filling in of relevant communication books and care plans for each of the individuals you care for, this keeps others in the knowledge of the current situation in the work place with service users.
Not until all staff members are trained more effectively to prevent rape and to respond sympathetically to victims. Instruction concerning aspects of sexual victimization could be added as part of their curriculum. Once on duty, continued vigilance of inmate movement (surveillance camera and patrolling) should be enforced. Those officers working in classification should take notice of potential targets and aggressors, as well as note those inmates who have previously been sexually victimized while in the system and house them accordingly. Inmate orientation should also include sessions by staff and inmates that address sexual victimization issues.
There were several reasons behind this. One reason was to divert ones who would normally have no issue in committing a crime and for ones who have already committed crimes after their release not likely to return and serve a sentence. Penitentiaries also serve as a place to face punishment when one has committed a crime as well as encourage any type of personal reform for their actions. Penitentiaries are especially used to protect innocent people from these one who have committed crimes (Encyclopedia Britannica, 2011). American prisons have two different types of models.
