Striving To Become the “Perfect Woman” Abstract Women and young girls will do almost anything to become what society has established as the “Perfect Woman.” Many will go through expensive and risky plastic surgeries trying to obtain this flawless appearance. Millions of dollars are spent each year on beauty products, by women who cannot afford surgery. These high standards of beauty imposed on women and young girls by society are also a major cause in the rise of eating disorders in females. A lot of women and young girls will do almost anything to achieve this superficial beauty. Striving To Become the “Perfect Woman” Women in today’s society are constantly bombarded with images of what most would call the “Perfect Woman.” Television, movies, computer ads, billboards, and magazines are constantly reminding women of their imperfections. Computer ads, billboards, and magazines contain pictures that have been altered to edit imperfections, whereas, television and movies have actresses that are dangerously thin with big breast, perfect facial features, and perfect hair. Obviously, no woman can achieve the beauty portrayed through the media’s unrealistic pictures and the only way to gain the appearance of these actresses is to go to the extreme. These unrealistic images of the “Perfect Woman” have caused society to establish a standard of beauty that is, for most, unattainable. Due to social pressure, women go to the extreme in order to become what today’s media has portrayed as the “Perfect Woman.” But what is perfect? According to Dictionary.com there are 9 different definitions for that dreadful word. The first definition describes perfect as “conforming absolutely to the description or definition of an ideal type” (2006); whereas, the ninth interrupts perfect to be, “expert; accomplished; proficient” (2006).
