Stress and Methods for Coping or Reducing As an adult, you are required to be in control of several areas of your life. When you are performing well on your job, being a good parent and spouse, maintaining good finances, being a good student and being a value to your community, you are consider to be a successful adult. Sadly, there are consequences when trying to attain those successes in life. Many people find that they are harmfully affected with an emotion that can cause a lot of physical and mental anguish. The emotion that I’m referring to is called stress. Stress is defined as the body’s reaction to an uncontrollable or unpredictable event which a person may perceive the event as being a threat to their well-being. This reaction is some like the flight or fight response and it is harmful for an individual when they are under too much pressure for consistent periods of time. It’s becoming a common occurrence for people who are so stressed out from work or school to decide and shoot up their job or school. However, due to all the senseless and heinous crimes occurring stress is being seriously debated by the medical community. I personally believe these stress rages would not be occurring, if they had positive outlets to relieve or cope with the amount of stress they are dealing with on a daily basis. People also use many other unadvisable ways to cope with stress but, until they recognize what stress is and use the one of the proper methods to cope or reduce stress, our citizens and communities will continue to be at risk. There are many scientifically approved coping techniques that will be given to you later, but lets explore what stress does. First, let’s talk about what really happens to a person when they are overwhelm with stressed. Just because a person says that they are stressed, doesn’t always necessarily mean that they are in a bad way.
