Introduction Stress – we all have it. From waking up to an alarm clock when we are exhausted, to leaving lunch on the kitchen counter, to running the kids to their sports activities, to paying the bills, to making a deadline, to forgetting to change the oil in the car – stress is ever present. According to the Medical Awareness Institute (2010), forty-three percent of all adults suffer adverse health effects from stress. Seventy-five percent to ninety percent of all doctor's office visits are for stress-related ailments and complaints. Stress costs American industry more than $300 billion annually. With a lifetime prevalence of an emotional disorder is more than fifty percent, often due to chronic, untreated stress reactions. Luckily, there are many different ways to combat stress and stop, or even reverse, the damaging effects of stress, before it’s too late.
