There are multiple types of storage devices. A storage device is a piece of computer equipment on which information can be stored. There are hard drives, CD’s, DVD’s, flash memory cards, floppy disk, and flash drives. I use three of the six listed. I use a hard drive, flash drives, and CD’s. I will write my paper on the pros and cons of each device that I use. There are pros and cons to using each device. The most frequently used storage device used by me is the hard drive. Hard drives come in all sizes, shapes, and capacities. The storage capacity of hard drives has been increasing dramatically these past years. Currently, you can still buy a 160 GB hard drive, but smaller drives have virtually disappeared from the market. But interestingly, the 160 GB hard drives are the same price as the 320 GB drives, which are also the same price as the 500 GB drives. All of these sizes are priced well under $100 and some are under $50. There are generally two styles, one designed to be mobile and the other for sitting on a desktop. Portable 500 GB hard drives are about the size of a cell phone. I have a 400 GB hard drive inside my XBOX 360 about the size of a cell phone. The drives will usually automatically install whatever software is needed and be ready to use in a matter of a few minutes. Larger size drives are now available, with sizes growing to the 4000 GB range for around $200. With these prices, there is really no excuse for no backing up all of your data. Hard drives are very dependable and last for years until they don’t. One bad factor is that they are not durable. If they are dropped they may be dead. The next type of device is flash drive. I have a couple of these. Small capacity flash drives are found almost everywhere for sale. The most common drives are 2 GB or larger. Some 2 and 4 GB flash drives are selling for less than $5.
